TPMS Sensors for Canada

I am eagerly awaiting delivery of my new 2013 GLK (probably early next week). Since I live in Canada, winter tires are a no-brainer. So looking at Tirerack, I see that I can add TPMS sensors for $248 for 4. However, I know that TPM systems are slightly different in the US (active) than in Canada (passive). Tirerack indicates that they are 433 MHz sensors. Anyone in Canada has had experience in buying sensors from Tirerack for their Canadian MB? Any problems? Advice?

When I bought winter tires for our Canadian R Class from Tire Rack I got TPMS sensors for them just to find out that our car did not have or need TPMS sensors. Bad advice from Tire Rack and it cost me $488 at the time.

Our 2011 GLK does not have TPMS sensors, nor does our 2010 C63. I would wait till you take delivery of your car to double check if it has TPMS sensors. You may not need them and it would be a waste of money to get them in that case.

most canadian cars dont need the sensors. passive tpms works by measuring speed of wheel rotation (which changes as tire pressure decreases). no 'sensor' on wheel. so you dont need 'em.

Smile Problem solved!

Thanks guys, this was great advice. I got my GLK on Saturday on the parts department confirmed that there are no sensors required for canadian MB TPMS systems. 250$ back in my pockets!
