New Release:BBS RX-R Cast Aluminum Monobloc with Flow-formed rim from GMP Performance

When someone mentions BBS wheels, most often, people's minds go directly to racing. After all, they did pioneer the development of the 3 piece racing wheel back in 1972, which was nothing less than a revolution in motorsports at the time. 40 years later. they are still just as passionate about racing. They consider motorsports to be the driving force behind what makes BBS today.

That passion and that pride is what they want to bring to you.

And they have. Everything that defines their past is still being made in the present, as can be seen by the RX-R.

Produced using the BBS low-pressure casting process, optimised by FEM analysis, manufactured using the flow-forming process for maximum resistance and low weight – they‘ve given the monobloc RX-R the best of the BBS heritage

Pure racing. Passion in aluminium. Dynamic. Power. And endurance for sporty driving. That‘s the RX-R.

Technology

BBS is synonymous with high-quality wheels. But what makes BBS the best is not just what you see on the surface, it's what you don't see that makes their wheels the most sought-after and respected in the world.

BBS Flow-Forming Process

Every technology has a limit. Cast aluminum wheels were a big improvement over the steel wheels. However when it comes to performance, there are other technologies like flow-forming or forging that surpass a standard cast wheel. These higher level technologies will allow a reduction in weight (while maintaining the stiffness and durability) that will improve vehicle performance.

BBS supplies cast flow-formed wheels for many high performance OEM manufacturers including: BMW, Audi, Ferrari and Porsche. Also, some factory racing programs from BMW, Ferrari and Ford have selected a BBS cast flow-formed product specifically for track use.

Explanation

"Flow Forming" is a procedure that uses 3 hydraulic rollers and tremendous pressure to "Form" the inner rim area. Through this process, 3 hydraulic rollers force the cast material to conform to the profile of the massive steel tooling. During the process, the full width of the rim is created.

Benefit

The pressure used in this process actually changes the mechanical properties of the cast rim area to have strength, stiffness and impact values closer to that of a forged rim. "Flow Forming" also helps reduce the weight up to 15% when compared to a standard cast wheel. The overall "Stiffness to Weight Ratio" is very good and can deliver a very high level of performance at a cost that is much lower than a forged wheel.

Stainless Steel Rim Protector

With our patented rim protector made of polished stainless steel, you can permanently safeguard the high-quality look of your wheels. Should damage occur, the rim protector is available as a replaceable spare part and can be exchanged quickly and easily without having to replace the entire rim or remove the tire.

What is a "Performance" wheel?

Although many people confuse "light weight" with "performance", the key to a performance wheel is to have the proper "Stiffness-to-Weight Ratio". Many companies will promote how "light" their "Performance" wheel is and many people will only look at the "weight" and not consider the stiffness, load ratings or durability aspects needed to create a proper hi-performance wheel.

In the aftermarket, some customers will ask "What is the lightest wheel you have for my car?" and although the weight is important, many aftermarket companies will overlook "stiffness and durability" in the pursuit of a "light weight" wheel. Replacing an OE wheel with a (non-BBS) aftermarket wheel that is only "lighter" without respecting the required stiffness and durability, will not enhance the vehicles performance and may lead to buyer's remorse.

The balance of "Stiffness to weight" is very important. The OE wheels on modern performance vehicles are designed to meet the performance requirements of that vehicle. The stiffness and durability specifications from the OE manufacturers are very important factors so the finished product meets the intended performance capabilities of the vehicle.

BBS does not compromise on strength or durability. Regardless of whether we offer a cast wheel, a cast flow-formed wheel or a forged wheel for a given application, the strength and durability aspects are not compromised.

BBS produces many cast flow-formed wheels for OE customers like BMW, Ferrari and Porsche. This technology can produce a high performance product that is also a great value. The flow-forming of the rim area creates a rim structure similar to a forged wheel without the high cost related to a forged product. In the aftermarket BBS produces several cast flow-formed wheels like the CH, CH-R or CX-R that offer a high level of performance and an excellent stiffness to weight ratio.

Why BBS?

BBS has been engineering true high performance wheels for more than 40 years. Over the past 40 years, BBS wheels have won over 250 series Championships, ranging from F1, Touring Cars, Prototypes, Silhouette, Open-wheel, World Rally Championships, Hillclimb and Motorcycles. They understand what it takes to engineer wheels and technologies that can not only compete, but can win Championships. Since BBS produces OE wheels for many manufacturers including companies like BMW, Ferrari and Porsche, they understand the true performance requirements along with the proper load rating, tolerances and durability specifications.
No other wheel manufacturer uses a wider range of materials, processes or construction methods and can services a wider range or customers from OE, OES, Motorsports and the aftermarket, than BBS. Their wide range of materials and technologies allows them to select the best material and production method to service their customers.

Unlike most every other wheel manufacturer in the world, the first wheels produced by BBS were for racing only. BBS continued to engineer and develop racing wheels long before they were asked to produce wheels for road cars. The know-how and successes from the motorsports program has always been the foundation of all BBS aftermarket products. Their best designs and technologies used for their aftermarket wheels are directly linked to our motorsports activities. "Technology through Motorsports" is much more than just tag line.
