What does "pasting" the brake pads mean?

I have been having a lot of brake squeal lately from my CLK55 with 26,000 miles. I thought it was the pads that needed to be replaced, but the dealership told me that I still have a significant amount of pad life left. They suggested that I may want to "paste" or "repaste" the pads and that may take care of the problem. I have no idea what this means or what the process is.
Anyone know? Thanks.

Anti-squeel paste that goes on the BACK of the pads where they meet the pistons.
