Take the following with a grain of salt. I had three US spec W123 MB's (83, two 84s). My remembrance from that time period was that the wheels were all 14 inch with similar bolt patterns. I believe the only differnece was that the bigger cars had wider wheels and a step or two bigger tire, but I could well be wrong.
The problem was always that the steel wheels required short wheel bolt and the "finned" US MB alloy wheel required longer bolts, and using the wrong bolt was (and continues to be) a major no-no.
