Best Tires for '85 500SEL?
It's time to buy new tires for Big Benz, as my Michelins are staring to go bald (especially the outside left front - probably need an alignment check too).
I LOVE the Bridgestone Potenzas I put on my '99 Volvo XC, but they don't come in the right size for the Mercedes.
Which tires do y'all recommend?

I'm new to this forum. But as far as tires, I chose the Phantom Warrior HR, size 205/65R 15, 94H BSW. Purchased from America's Tire Company. Bought a set of 4. Got $15 off from the retail price for each tire by bringing in printouts of these tires and their less expensive tires from their website. Anyhow, they're speed rated and work just fine at high speeds.

New tires
I would recommend the Yokohama AVID H4s. I wanted Bridgestone also, I have read a lot about them and they are the choice tires from Porsche and Mercedes for most of the models I am interested in, but like you said they didn't carry the size I needed. I was replacing an older pair of Yokohamas - the YK420's and the only good tires comparable according to the tire shop that is run by a family friend was new Yokohama's (AVID 4s) or Sumitomo tires - which I had put all around on my older 300SD and were better than decent tires as far as ride and handling. The Sumitomos are a new tire to the States but apparently are widely used and a huge brand name elsewhere, especially in Japan, and my mother also recently replaced her tires all around with the Sumitomos on her 300D Turbo and likes them very much. They should run from $45/tire but I liked the ride and hard handling of the Yoke's a little better so paid $75/tire - you get what you pay for here. I have chrome W-8 15" wheels and am now happy with the Yokohama AVID H4s P215/60R15 93 H tires. The only difference I can see from the older YK420's is that the new AVID's have a 44 psi max load where as the older Yoke's had a 35 psi max load.
I hope this was helpful.
