Steering on W204 C250 too light and responsive after collision/repair. Help!
I'm new to the forum and a bit of a newbie to the automotive world in general, and just wanted a bit of wisdom regarding a problem that I am currently experiencing.
Long story short, I was in a collision accident about a month ago, and had the right hand side of my front end smashed in. I had the vehicle repaired at an official Mercedes Benz Collision Centre, and to my understanding everything that was damaged was replaced/repaired, and any imperfections in the suspension/alignment were corrected. When I got the car back after about 3 weeks in the repair shop, it looked good as new, however felt like an entirely different car to drive.
Everything felt great, with the exception of the steering/handling. It was now so unbelievably light and responsive, that it was almost scary to drive. It would take almost zero effort to turn the wheel in either direction to lock it, at interstate speeds it is very difficult to keep stable in that even the slightest flinch of a finger would veer the car (not to mention a flick of the wrist would send it off the road), and during corners, there is almost no resistance when I push down to turn. It almost feels like I'm playing a video game with this new steering feel. I find myself having to be so deliberate in my movements in order to avoid losing control and turning too sharply, as opposed to the intuitive, hefty steering it once had.
My question is, what do you think it could possibly be/what should I do next? I took the car back to the collision centre, and stated my concerns. Yet they took it into the shop, and couldn't seem to find anything mechanically wrong with the car; the tires were the right pressure supposedly, alignment was apparently fine, and just overall none of the mechanics could fault it. However, I'm hard pressed to believe that everything is 100% fine with the car, as it went from being a vehicle that hugged the road and inspired confidence, to one that feels twitchy, nervous, and almost scary to drive. I understand that an accident can definitely screw up the dynamics of the car, but since everything was overhauled very thoroughly, there must be some underlying cause thats identifiable. Should I go to another shop and get a second opinion? Should I just get used to it? Let me know your thoughts.
Sorry for the long post, once again i just want to reiterate that I am a newbie to the automotive world and any help would be appreciated, as the thought of my beloved car driving this way for the rest of my ownership is quite a depressing one
Looking forward to hearing from all of you.
