Tire Replacement 2014 ML350 Blurtec

Just replaced my original Continetal tires after 51,711 miles & still showing 4.5 mm left. Mavis trie did the work mounting 4 new Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus. My question is Mavis claimed it's required to rebuild the Tire Pressure Sensior, I do not think so. What is correct?

Pass, your tire shop is trying to hood wink you!

Tpms batteries life is usually about five to seven years. There have been instances where some drivers have gotten as long as ten years.

Further, a failed sensor is simply removed and replaced, not rebuilt.

Your current sensors should remain functional until its time to replace your new Pirellis.

And by the way, I'd find a new tire shop.

the tire shop is correct

Oops, Luke is correct, my mea culpa. He is, for sure, the expert and the guy I call when I need tire advice.

Perhaps I should ensure I've read the original post more closely. I read the words rebuild tpms as replace tpms.

The process described by Luke can be purchased as a kit. The cost is minimal and represents good preventive maintenance.

I stopped at my MB Dealer & explained issuse to service manager who said with just a tire change there is no reason to replace or rebuild the sensior. If it is not broken don't fix it!

I misread the original post thinking the tire shop was proposing replacing the tpms sensors. And so I thought the shop was attempting to sell work not needed.

In fact they were recommending a new O ring that seals the sensor to the rim and a new valve to maintain tire pressure. The valve stem cap is overkill.

Following Luke's recommendation will result in going from wearing out your current tires and getting a new set with no tpms maintenance required. Nothing more than smart preventive maintenance.
