which snows for 2004 e class 4 matic

I have 2004 e class with appearance package and have obtained a second set of wheels to keep the same look year round. I live on Long island NY and would like to know which 17 inch snows that match stock size would be best. Looking for comfort and quiet. Obviously the best winter traction to go with that. Is any thing new coming out? When should I buy?

Dan

We have used Dunlop Wintersport M2s for years on our BMWs (and a Supra TT) and expect to use them next winter on our E320 CDI. We have the tires mounted on a single set of rims though. I think the rebalancing twice a year is a good thing.

I imagine Bridgestone LM210s or Pirelli 210/240s would be another option. I am not fond of the tread pattern on the Michelin snows.

In any event, only get a snow tire with an H speed rating. That will maintain you handling for the 95% of the time you don't really need a snow tire.

Would have to agree with David. The Dunlop is a great tire for snow. In conjunction with traction control, no real problems ever encountered.

I've also heard great things about a brand called Nokian. Don't know if they have tires in 17 inch size.

depends on the weather
I would recommend asking this question again in late September when any new products that might come out have been evaluated

Snows for 4matic?

I have to ask, do you really need snow tires for your 4matic? Here in Colorado good all season tires work year 'round. Yes, snow tires will improve your traction on the absolute worst days - but how many of those do you really have to drive in? I've driven over Vail pass many times in some pretty good snow storms and never had a problem with just all-seasons on.
