I am a new user so please be patient. I want to put new tires on my 1975 450 SL. The stock rims call for 205/70 14. I only drive the car in the summer. Tire Rack seems to point me to Sumitomo HTR 200, Firestone Affinity LH30 and Michelin Harmony. I do very little mileage so durability is not a main issue and I am not concerned about saving a few dollers if that compromises the selection.
Any advice and experience would be appreciated.
Thanks

Well, no response. Disappointed. I conclude that this forum must be for modern car owners and need of Tire Rack commercial exposure.

Hi,
I looked through tire rack.. and found...
The Sumitomo HTR-200 is the only H-Rated tire in 205/70/14
but do you really need its 130mph speed rating?
however,
The Yokohama Avid T4 and Bridgestone Turanza LS-T seem to be good tires.
you could also upgrade the wheels to the 15x7 15-hole wheels and put on a set of 205/65/15s - a lot of newer (better technology) tires in that size.

Finding 14" tires is getting harder and harder. I strongly recommend the Sumitomos as they are an excellent tire at a fantastic price. The Ferrari guys use these a lot on the earlier 308's that had 14" wheels. The oem tires were Michelin XWX's that cost $250 per tire from Coker!!!!
