Costco has new rules!!!

As of August 30th, Costco will no longer install tires they don't sell. That includes mounts and dismounts on snow tires!!!

Where I am in NJ, this makes installations much more expensive ($10 to $20-25) and creates a search for good installers. Since I have had bad luck finding Tire Rack installers that can really do the job, it is going to make my tire purchases more difficult.

Normally I use EuroTire in Fairfield for this stuff. However when I do, I basically end up buying the tires from them. So it just costs more. And it is 45 minutes away. Costco is 10-15 minutes away. A big difference when the car is small (like an S2000) and can't carry the snow/old tires home.

Nationwide, this will probably hit places like Tire Rack. Judging from other boards, it looks like a significant percentage of their customers use Costco for installation.

Well now you don't have to worry, since as of August 30th they don't!!!

However if you buy you tires there (they sell Michelin, Bridgestone, and BFG), they will mount. Prices are roughly similar to Tire Rack. For example, a Michelin PA2 225/55-16, the size for our car, is $123 + shipping and installation at Tire Rack. At Costco it is $133 + tax installed and balanced.
