305s on a 10J
Hello all.
I have not long owned my 215 sporting a set of E63 19" staggererd rims, but the first thing I had to do was pull them to find out what I was wrapping with my rather odd combination of tyres.
Fronts are 9J and are wrapped in 245/35s, which are too small and look really bad:
They were asking to get curbed with that tyre!
I will fix the rash when I fit new tyres - and will come to the sizing closer the time.
As stated in the title here, the rears are successfully tucked up with 305s on a 10J rim:
Funny how these ones have not suffered any curbing...
They don't rub, they look great, I don't have to worry about scuffing them. I'm definitely a fan of sidewall rim protection.
I'd love to discuss any experience running such a wide tyre on a rim that really isn't designed for it. This thread: Wider Wheels and Tyres C63 W205 - MBWorld.org Forums gave me shivers about the notion while cornering; suggesting that the rim may feel as though it floats across the width and feel unsettled. There were some mixed reviews and real world feel-in-the-field data.
What would you do? Would you ditch the mean-looking, balooning effect and get closer to the original tyre sizes? Or would you keep the 'ft-wide footprints' and just compliment up front? Share me your thoughts and experiences
For reference, the original alloys and tyres for this c215 CL600 should have been 245/40R19 (8.5J ET44) & 275/35R19 (9.5J ET46).

Little update:
I have invested in a brand new set of 265/35 19s for the front and a replacement set of 305/30 19s for the back. Will pop up some pictures and let y'all know how they feel should anyone stumble across this thread in future.
