what are the biggest I can put on there.....255s...bigger?

2004 Mercedes Benz CLK 500
255 is the ideal size, but you may be able to fit 265 on there.

255 is maximum on 8.5. There is no 265 tire I know of that can fit on 8.5 - minimum 9.
