c230k with 17,000 mile: should tires be worn out?
Hi all,
I've had this car for about 11 months, I don't drive it hard, and according to the dealership i need new tires. Then the lady had the ***** to tell me it looks like i've been spinning my tires. I think they see another problem, and what they're afraid of is having to pay for it, so they want to blame me for whatever it is.
I looked at my tires, and they have pretty good depth on tread, seeing that they only have 17,000 miles on them. Whats the normal wear on these types of tires? And how often should they be replaced?
Also...what does everyone usually get as a replacement tire?
Thanks,
mark

In the market
I replaced my stocks with aftermarket after about 12,000 miles, but still have them. They still look brand new and show no obvious signs of treadwear at all. I have a hard time believing that another 5,000 miles would have made that big of a difference. If you are seriously not being hard on your tires, then you may have some kind of alignment issue or something. Then again...the type of road surface you travel on and typical speeds and stuff may play a role as well.

We would need to know what tires you got. If they are 17" then you have sport tires and members have reported low mileage life. But if you have 16" then you would have the AS tires. Baring any incorrect inflation history and/or suspension issues they should last twice that. HTH

i have the 17 inch sport tire michellins. According to mercedes, I have bad alignment, but i'm surprised no one noticed this at service A. if i look at the tire, they really don't look bad.
Not really sure what to do...they said if i put new tires on it might fix my alignment problem...or the other option is 950$ for new tires and 250$ alignment.
