Scraped rim, cut wheel....

I didn't notice a curb as I pulled into a parking garage past the gate, and turned left catching my driver's side rear wheel. 2004.5 5-spoke got scratched on the very lip of the rim, but the sidewall also got cut. It's a small flap, not too deep, not losing air (so far). My MB dealer recommended a guy to fix the wheel finish - - he's got a mobile facility and comes to the house. $75 per wheel. Takes it off the car into his portable shop, and remounts a factory finished wheel. Very cool.

But....
How about the tire? The cut flap is just above the wheel scrape.Should I cut off the flap? Glue it down? How deep is too deep, and should it be replaced?

hard to distinguish the condition without looking at it... however, exterior tears are more ok than damage on the inside of the tire...

I would take the tire to a tire shop and have it looked at. it MAY be ok...

I know this post is a little old but I ran into the same problem just last week on my NEW 05 C ss. Im pissed off but just like you I was puzzled about the small piece of tire that came out. Then I got an idea, what if the tire was swicthed around. This way the cut on the tire is on the other side rather than the out side. Can this be done? Better yet, should this be done? Will it mess up the tire?

By the way, my rim got scratched about 1 inch long as well on the lip. I painted it. My dealer wanted $120 and didnt think it was worth it. You realy cant see it unless u look for it. I got silver paint. What do you guys think about what I did? Good idea or should I just pay the money and have them fix the rim.

Thanks guys
