How bad are 19's in the winter?

I have an S430 4-matic is it possible to use 19" wheels in light snow? or will I be sledding? Are 19's a rough ride in general ? Thanks

I know 19's are a rough ride in general, but I am unsure of snow question. I am curious to know as well

it would also have to depend on what kind of tires you have... if they are max performance tires... they usually aren't very good on snow...

plus, if you have real nice wheels, you might not want it in the snow anyways...

I don't think anybody puts those on a sedan for the snow... I think either they have *really* nice wheels and the car is shelved when it snows, or they drop the 19s in exchange of something more practical, like 16-17" dedicated snow tires or something...

Even if you head to the tire rack, they seem to recommend 225/55-17s for an S-430 in a winter package (Winter Sports, Blizzaks, X-Ice, etc). I'm sure it *can* be done, but the question I think is whether or not it's practical, even with 4-matic...

I think it also depends on whether you have another set of wheels hanging around or if you're planning to buy a whole set... I don't think it's a good idea to keep mounting and re-mounting summer/winter/summer/winter tires on the same rims depending on the season.

Snow driving is pretty much the opposite of driving the other three seasons. The wider your tire, the harder it is to control your vehicle. A smaller tire goes through the snow much easier than a larger one. Downsize for the winter.
