Winter/Summer Tire Recomendations for GLC 350e

I took delivery last week on our 2025 GLC 350e. One option we didn't really want, but ended up getting due to availability was the AMG 20" multi-spoke wheels. They look great, but I was worried about bigger wheels ride comfort and ease of curb damage. I just assumed they would come with run flats given what I've read (and given there is no spare and no boot room). But suprise, the car came with non-runflat summer tires.

My 20" wheels came equipped with Continental eco contact 6q 108W XL's, 255/45 on the front, and 285/40 on the back, which is apparently a summer tire. I've only ever owned all-seasons before (and I assumeed the new car would come with all seasons). The dealer never even mentioned this when I took delivery on a 20 degree day, which seems surpising.

I live in Chicago, it's 33 F today and scheduled to snow. The temperature likely doesn't average above 45F until April here. So, do I need to go have the rubber changed, buy some blizzak winter tires or something for 4 weeks, and then swap them back again?

Is running the summer tires in sub 45 for 4 weeks a big deal? I'm on a 4 year lease, and I normally only drive 5K a year, so likely won't go through a set of tires for the entire lease. I certainly want my family to be safe. Any advice?

Thankns.

Summer tires should not be used if the temps are consistently below 45°F. You should change them out to winter or all seasons. It's dangerous and you could lose traction. I have the same issue and I'm in TN. It still gets cold here so I moved to Pirelli Weatheractive tires in November and will change back to the Pirelli summer tires that came with the car in April. I decided to get new wheels and will keep the all seasons on the factory wheels and the summer tires on the new wheels. Easy enough for me to swap them myself at home. My car is the W214 E450 with 20" wheels. I'll change the tires as needed on each set of wheels.
