1970 280SE COUPE rim and tire max size

If any one has any information on how big of a rim and tire I can go without any modification to the suspension or rubbing. If I want a 1 1/4 whitewalls what sizes would I have to consider. Thinking about a 17" mercedes rim.

Luke, what does your research find? Someone told me I can go 17" max. What tire size should I go with, 225/55/R17 .... 235/50/R17. Should the front tires be smaller than the rear?
