for a great set of wheels and a great member on this forum! 
The M40 was the designation for the mesh design monoblock wheel from HRE specifically made for Mercedes. The P40 was the same made specifically for Porsche vehicles. The M40's ended up being a lil heavier as they were meant to go on benz which tend to be on the "heavier" side and thus needed to be made stronger.
The M40 mesh design ended up going straight out whereas the P40 had the ends come in towards the outside of the wheel. I don't know if this makes sense but if you look at both wheels, you'll know what I mean.
