When are Tires Too Old to Drive on?
I cannot rotate the tires because they are staggered on 17' wheels for the 2009 W204 Sports Package configuration.
Summers are OEM Michelin Pilot Hx MXM4's (which will be replaced with Michelin AS3's at some point).
Winters are Dunlop Wintersports 3D's (which will be replaced by something else, most likley Michelin Alpin A2's).
Do you guys get rid of your odl tires based on wear, age, or both?
After 5 years, what would I notice 'differently' about driving on these same tires? I read that the rubber hardens...what is the impact of this?
Any tire guys care to chime in?
Thanks.
There is nothing like new tires.
Mileage is always an important factor there are indicators that recomend when to replace look closely at tires. . The Sun kills tires. it dries them out...
As for age 5 years is not that bad especially if you take them off in the winter and summer. The Sun kills tires. It dries them out much faster.
dry cracks on the sidewall close to the threads on normal and is not a problem.
Good way to tell with age is look at the treads, if you see dry cracking on the threads (center of tires) its time to change . tire threads with dry cracks can cause a blowout on the highway.
have to excuse any typos , did this on my cell phone..
