Crutchfield told me to use RCA jacks (and that there was no subwoofer output from the headunit) so I taped off the wire speaker outputs. I also taped off dimmer (orange wire) as I did not connect to cigarette lighter on the wiring harness adapter. I also taped off the Mute (brown), Antenna control (blue), and Remote Control (blue/yellow) on the Kenwood wiring harness. So only 4 connections.

I felt around for a better way to run the microphone wire for 5 seconds. Shrugged. Hey it fits this way. I can live with a couple inches of ugly wire.

OK why no power? Crutchfield explained why. On the reverse side of the Mercedes wiring harness (where there is a red output wire) THERE IS NO STINKING INPUT WIRE! That is the gap between the sole brown wire on the left and the 2 brown wires on the right on the bottom row... Grrrr. To the cigarette lighter!

After being educated that I was not getting much out of the head unit's RCA jacks, I cut the RCA cables from the adapter harness and spliced them to the wire output of the head unit. A bit fiddly for a klutz as the wires were tiny and not much length for splicing.

here is the fully installed unit. Yes, I did not do anything with the microphone cord except TAPE IT TO THE CONSOLE. Very slightly indeed. Then again, it is a 14 year old car and I am a klutz. I might to look at this again in the future, but need the car this week.
