Is a C63 S AMG With Launch Control Faster Than a VW Polo Without?

Having launch control is a wonderful thing. If you’ve never experienced a car at full tilt launch off the line, you’re missing out. However, most launch controls are slow, dimwitted, and a pain in the ass to get into while stuck at the lights. You’ll either miss the opportunity and the person will drive off, or you’ll be sitting at the lights, revving the heck out of the car for what seems like the longest time possible, just waiting for the light to turn green.

With that said, the guys over at AutoExpress decided to see which is faster: having a car with launch control, or having a car without. By getting together four cars — a Mercedes C63 S AMG, a BMW M3, a Porsche 911 Carrera, and a VW Polo — AutoExpress went about testing how long it actually took the drivers to engage the mode, then launch. And since the Polo doesn’t have launch control, it got a head start while the others were fiddling around.

It’s a funny video, and definitely worth a look. Just remember next time, launch control isn’t always the faster method.
