Despite the Mercedes-Benz division’s recent stellar performance, Daimler’s hyper luxury division remains in the doldrums, with the direction of the Maybach brand still uncertain. But for better or worse, it seems that the end of the month will see a definitive decision on the fate of the struggling marque.

At this point, there seems to be two realistic options, if rumors are
to be believed. The first option would be to kill the brand, despite
its pedigree.

The other option, which has been heard of for a long time,
is for a proposed partnership to progress to the point where Daimler
will agree to Aston Martin producing and ultimately developing new
models for the brand. This would entail moving the production of the
Maybach to England where Aston Martin has already setup an assembly line
for its Rapide model. It’s been rumored that a proposed partnership
would give Aston access to platforms and engines, so this would be a
coup for the English manufacturer.

Whatever the ultimate fate of the Maybach division will be, it seems
that things are coming to a head and it won’t be long before the
decision on the brand will be made at Daimler.
