With open arms, consumers welcomed the 2014 CLA250 to the Mercedes-Benz lineup like people welcome their favorite long-lost friend to a high school reunion. In contrast, the automotive press welcomed the CLA250 to the Benz lineup like relatives welcome a drunken uncle to the family Christmas party.

Consumer Reports didn’t like it, and people I know who have test driven it have told me it feels cheap. Despite some negative qualities like a cheap-feeling (for a Mercedes) driving experience, a cramped interior and poor visibility, the CLA250 is perfect for luring more buyers into Mercedes-Benz showrooms. Starting at $29,900 it’s priced practically, but with a big three-pointed star sitting in the grille, it’s an emotional buy, too.

The /DRIVE Network has premiered their new TEST/DRIVE show by reviewing the 2014 CLA250, and in contrast to reviews before it, Matt Farah’s take on the non-AMG CLA is a bit more positive. Find out how positive in the video below.
