Need help with GLS450
Hey guys,
Just got a 2024 GLS450.
Got a quick question: all the youtubers got picture 1 typc-C, while I got the picture 2 which I never see this in other cars. So....whats going on? Why MB has 2 ways on the type-C part? Both has wireless charging.
Thanks!! Please forgive the resolution.

Hey there, I get why seeing a different Type-C setup on your GLS450 compared to what youtubers showcase can be confusing! Mercedes-Benz sometimes offers variations in their USB-C configurations based on trim levels or regional specifications, which might explain the dual setups you're noticing. It’s possible that one of the ports supports additional features like faster data transfer or enhanced power delivery, even though both offer wireless charging. Another angle could be that there are software or firmware differences affecting how each port operates, leading to the distinct appearances you've observed.

Yours is 2024 facelift… the first photo i think is for pre-facelift.. With facelift they also removed the rear house-style outlet that serves the rear passengers at the bottom of the central console.

I believe the cigarette 12v socket was moved to the passenger footwell too in the facelift.

I don't think there is any cigarette socket in my 2022 other than that in the trunk area. Otherwise there is a total of 9 USB-C all around the car (yes, nine!), plus one household style outlet facing the rear passengers at the bottom of the central console next to two other USB outlets. I was impressed by how many power outlets the car has and how well they are distributed, not to mention the wireless charge pad.

One of you mentioned that this may have an advantage over the USB-C, can you remind me what was the benefit? Was it AMPs related? Assuming it's fused to 20A, I assume it can do up to 240W? The 2nd row has an AV household style 115V outlet that delivers up to 150W (1.3A at 115V), which is really neat. I can easily power my laptop or charge a vacuum for road trips, power other heavy-duty equipment, or even power a fairly large freezer/fridge (that outlet is not a grounded-style outlet, so am not sure what that means when using it for grounded-style chargers or cables for electronics through an adapter)

Our new to us 2023 GLE350 has the same set up. Beware! If you plug a USB adapter into the power socket you might not be able to access the USB C on the right side. The one on the left is for wired Carplay so I don't believe it will provide power. I had a right angle USB C adapter so I can use that port but it's a tight fit.

@S_W222 I sometimes but rarely use a USB-C cigarette adapter for high-speed charging (when my phone battery is super low and it needs a quick recharge) since none of the pre-facelift usb-c ports have high-watt output. It's a 65w output PD USB-C adapter so plenty of juice to charge laptops as well, and I have a proper USB-C cable to handle the wattage as well.
I think I read somewhere that the facelift was upgraded to 100w in some or all of the USB-C ports, the facelift also removed the AC outlet in the back.

My 2024 GLC, a very different animal, has the power port in the passenger footwell. Thanks to kind members of that forum I was able to locate it. I bought a 4 port plug for it. 2 pd and 2 A ports. Has nice surround lighting to find it in the dark. Allows me to run a cable up to the dash for my very inexpensive ONN webcam, with the cable tucked in to the side of the console for most of the way. I also run a lightning cable into the glove compartment to keep an old iPad mini charged up which holds the owners manual. I have long C to C and C to Lighting cables that will easily reach the back seat. MB cheaped out by making C ports at the back of the console either part of a package or a stand alone option of $200.00. My setup? Elegant? No. Practical? Yes! Inexpensive? Yes. I'm like the Low Buck Garage of car toys. https://a.co/d/5jiWM2O

You don't have this cigarette socket underneath the spring loaded flip lid?

Especially since the highest rated dashcams seem to be less than $150, and the technology/ user-friendly nature is evolving rapidly.
I'd rather save my knuckles for something I consider more permanent.
I have my radar detector plugged into the console cigarette lighter 12v plug, and it is two USB-A sockets in it, giving more 5 volt sources. I run the the detector wire up behind the main display, and it's pretty invisible.
It's only hot when the car is running, but for my purposes that's fine.
