Mercedes Issues Recall for All-New C-Class
The car has barely launched and already the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been recalled. That’s not a good way to start.
Yesterday, Mercedes issued a recall for some 10,500 units of the new C-Class for a faulty steering rack that tends to squeak and, more importantly, not turn.
According to the company, the problem stems from a production issue on the “steering coupling interlock that isn’t in the correct locked position.”
The company spoke to Autoblog stating that while the defect was seen on European models built specifically in Europe, they took the cautious approach and recalled the models built in the U.S. as well.
While it doesn’t seem to be inherently dangerous, Mercedes is asking all C-Class owners to come into their dealers for a free inspection. It’s interesting to see how the fallout of the GM recall cock-up changed the entire way companies see recalls now. In the past this wouldn’t even be news, but now it’s a major issue.
