Mercedes is Making a Shooting Brake CLA, but Not for the U.S.

The new CLA is absolutely dominating its segment right now with some of the strongest sales figures across the industry. However, that isn’t stopping Mercedes from wanting to add more variants to the lineup that use this platform. We’ve already seen the bonkers CLA45 AMG, and the CUV-variant GLA, but now Mercedes wants to go after customers with the need for a bit more space.

Enter the CLA Shooting Brake. For those who don’t know what a shooting brake is, essentially it’s a station wagon. While those two words have been neglected for quite some time, that word shouldn’t put off any buyers. Long has it been since “station wagon” was a dirty word. Today’s wagons are some of the coolest cars on the road. Just look at the E63 Wagon, which outruns most supercars to 60 mph.

While the CLA Shooting Brake won’t be as fast as the E63 AMG Wagon, Mercedes-Benz will offer an AMG version using the 2.0L turbocharged four cylinder making 360 horsepower. It will also feature a host of other engine choices, including a diesel. However, currently there are no plans for Mercedes to bring this lovely little wagon over to the States, which kind of sucks.

That being said, Americans have become more sympathetic to both diesels and wagons as of late, and with how well the CLA is selling, Mercedes would be smart to bring a wagon version over in small numbers. Hopefully, Mercedes will see pent-up demand for a wagon version of their hot little car and bring over some long-roof goodness.
