Snoopy is Not Only a Pilot, He’s a Mercedes-Benz Driver

V Class 3

The Peanuts gang has been around since 1950, but they’re still the little kids we all know and love. Given the year of their first comic strip appearance, it seems fitting that the vehicle they get around in in the following commercial promoting “The Peanuts Movie” is a little old-fashioned itself.

It’s not an SUV or a crossover, a vehicle which seems to be all the rage these days for families.

No, Snoopy picks up Charlie Brown, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Sally, Linus, and Woodstock in a van: the V-Class from Mercedes-Benz.

V Class 2

The people-mover is the focus of a 360-degree marketing campaign of social media posting, advertisements, online banners, and promotional items by the automaker in Europe. A V-Class covered in Peanuts stickers will be making its first German stops in the cities of Rostock and Luebeck on November 27 as part of 20th Century Fox’s “The Peanuts Movie Tour.” Although the 3D movie is already out in the United States, German audiences will have to wait until December 23 to watch Charlie Brown pursue the affection of the new girl in town and Snoopy take on his old nemesis in the sky, the Red Barron. Don’t worry – he’ll still be doing that from the top of his flying red doghouse.

PRESS RELEASE

The only thing greater than their new vehicle is their friendship: From now on Charlie Brown and Snoopy will be travelling in a Mercedes-Benz V-Class. Mercedes-Benz Vans is taking on the co-promotion of “The Peanuts Movie”, the popular comic characters’ first 3D film to hit cinemas, and is accompanying the premiere with a 360-degree marketing campaign in Europe.
“We are delighted to accompany the new Peanuts movie with our V-Class. We believe the V-Class perfectly matches this entertaining film for young and old alike. Especially families value the high level of safety as well as the comfortable spaciousness combined with dynamic design”, says Nicolai Berger, Head of Marketing Communication and Product Information Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Co-promotional activities in 15 European markets anticipate the movie

The core element of the 360-degree marketing campaign is the elaborately produced V-Class commercial “Join Snoopy’s biggest ride”. In this commercial, Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the other Peanuts embark on a journey in their V-Class. The clip can be viewed from 5 December on German television, on Mercedes-Benz social media channels as well as online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gQmIaPzP8k&feature=youtu.be. Furthermore, advertisements, online banners and promotional items in V-Class dealerships complement the campaign.

Another highlight is “The Peanuts Movie Tour” organised by the film production company 20th Century Fox. The tour will take place all over Germany, starting in Rostock and Luebeck on 27 November. A V-Class with exclusive Peanuts stickers will accompany the tour.

“We want to cut short the time until the official film premiere for Peanuts fans both young and old with the TV commercial and our other numerous promotional activities”, says Nicolai Berger.
About “The Peanuts Movie”

“The Peanuts Movie” is the first 3D animation film from Blue Sky Studios based on the classic Peanuts comic created by Charles M. Schulz. The film is produced by the tradition-steeped film company 20th Century Fox. “The Peanuts Movie” will be released on 23 December 2015 in German cinemas.

Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved Peanuts gang make their big-screen debut, like they’ve never been seen before, in state of the art 3D animation. Charlie Brown, the world’s most beloved underdog, embarks upon an epic and heroic quest, while his best pal, the lovable beagle Snoopy, takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis, the Red Baron.
From the imagination of Charles M. Schulz and the creators of the “Ice Age” films, “The Peanuts Movie” will prove that every underdog has his day.

Derek Shiekhi's father raised him on cars. As a boy, Derek accompanied his dad as he bought classics such as post-WWII GM trucks and early Ford Mustang convertibles.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.

In addition to writing for a variety of Internet Brands sites, including JK Forum, H-D Forums, The Mustang Source, Mustang Forums, LS1Tech, HondaTech, Jaguar Forums, YotaTech, and Ford Truck Enthusiasts. Derek also started There Will Be Cars on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
