The hot, hot, hot 2017 Mercedes-AMG E43 has officially made its American debut at the New York International Auto Show, following the new-generation E-Class world debut in Detroit earlier this year.

It’s worth mentioning that this is in fact a newly-introduced “43”, and not the time-honored “63.” The engine under this hood is a 2,996 cc (3 liter) 6-cylinder biturbo, which gets a 34-horsepower bump over the previous generation’s power plant, for a grand total of 396 horsepower. It may not be the astronomical figure we’ve grown to expect from Mercedes, but if you ask me, 396 is just enough to have fun and not kill yourself (hopefully).

Paired with the three-pointed star’s new 9-speed 9GTRONIG transmission, Mercedes claims the E43 AMG can get to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds … mighty impressive for a luxury sedan.

This edition’s interior is basically identical to the non-AMG E-Class, albeit with bountiful use of carbon fiber, alcantara, and red cross-stitching throughout the cabin.

So, what do you think?
