This 500SL Is a Pristine Example of When Two-Tone Ruled the World

The economic climate in Poland in 1991 was far different than it is today. To give you an idea, this 500SL was purchased at one of Poland’s first official Mercedes-Benz dealers. At the time, the economy also meant that vehicle theft was a common occurrence, and a brand new SL made for quite a target. This one was stolen twice, but thankfully reunited with its owner all in one piece on both occasions. Since 1991 it has stayed in the Majewski family near Warsaw, being handed down from father to son, as highlighted in a recent Petrolicious profile.

Aside from the two thefts, this car had also been in an accident, which prompted a full restoration. If they were going to be fixing and replacing parts, they might as well bring everything up to brand new, right? The whole restoration took a year and a half. Since the accident took place two years ago, the car has only seen a few months on the road, but the memories are all still there. As you can tell by the photo set below, the owner still loves his beloved R129.
