E55 to dragstrip yesterday

My birthday was yesterday so I treated myself to renting Orlando Speedworld to do a little dragracing. The clutch in the Viper was slipping so I took my fathers E55 instead. The two best runs were at the hottest point in the day and unfortunately the track prep was not as nice as I had hoped so I had to use the traction control.
Here are the results.

also.... the car is an 05 w/every option and totally stock down to the tires.
15k miles on the clock. These two runs were back to back passes.

The times look pretty consistant. Given it is a luxury street car the 12 second times in the 1/4 are pretty good. You could try a z06 and run times around 11.6 but then you really would not want to put groceries in the rear very often.

I have both the E500 series and the vet. Good comparisom side by side.

Heat may have cut some off of the time but we normally run in 90+ heat. Jim

He has the track to himself. He should be able to do that.

I'm curious that the timeslip on the right (at 1:45PM) has a better launch based on the 60' and 330 times, but posts worse 1/4 time... your leg must have gotten tired??

If you could get those 60' to @1.8 then you are loking at 12.3-12.4 @117
For every .10 sec reduction in 60' you are looking at about .15-.20 at the end of the 1/4.

I HOT lapped the car, that is probably why....

Now that I have my own E55 I will be going back soon.
I have a set of new Drag Radials mounted to my stock rims ready

I wondering how much more than stock the HRE 20" front wheels weigh???
Anyone got an idea?

Thanks,
Jason

I wouldn't be surprised if the 20inch HREs are light than your stock 18s.

Any slips showing the spanking? More than a few members would be interested in seeing those.

Yes, Ice, but I suggest using a throw away turkey pan from grocery store to set the ice in to keep excess water off engine.

I figured it was to cool down, but seemed extreme. I am a noob w/ this car, so I'm not saying it's wrong (what do I know?), but it seems like it could possibly be extreme to the point of damage? Sort of like putting hot water on a cold windshield... couldn't it weaken the materials if you do that too often?

I know the turbos on my 911 turbo would get EXTREMELY hot, but I would have thought cold water would be a bad thing... same thing with hot brakes. I know for a fact that with brakes, you don't want to use cold water on them, so why is it ok w/ the S/C?

Again, I'm just asking for education's sake. I don't know the answer.

Ice on top of the blower is much more subtle than the comparisons your making. I don't see it as an issue in this case. The top of the blower is textured so to speak so your not even making full contact the way I do it.

Ive raced twenty types of cars over the years and have never had any mechanical failure from icing down intakes.

I could see throwing ice cold water on a set of rotors after ten laps of road racing causing damage, or on a glowing turbo exhaust housing, but again I think this is a different case.....

A bag of ice will melt and drip onto the track or in the staging lanes. I would recommend dry ice or an ice pack.. see below

THATS why I use the throw-away aluminum pans. It stops all but a few drips...

We should try to arrange another track rental. I'd love to do a few runs. I will help cover the cost, etc. Maybe even buy drinks afterwards...
