SL 65 AMG Black series
Great car, but disappointing HP's when you compare it with a tuned 65 from Renntech or Brabus....... They easily goes above the 700 hp!
Is AMG reserving some 'space' for the coming Gullwing? Or is it to keep the SLR customers happy?

Suspect it's the usual trade-offs of hp/tq vs reliability, traction, etc...nothing in engineering (or business) is "free"....
599 is most relevant competitor....will be intrigued to see if SportAuto finds quicker NBR times for 65Blk vs 599...
BTW, hearing price talk on 65Blk in US is already only $230K-ish, w/easy availability....not the $285K-ish price that was originally rumored....
SLR/Enzo/CGT are now fairly irrelevant comparables...they were engineered w/ancient 5yo+ tech.....
A global recession/credit crisis forces all mfrs to carefully price their cars conservatively if they hope to sell any...and continual advances in tech (both hardware and software) mean supercar NBR times for far cheaper, series-production models that are safer, more reliable, more luxurious than many alleged supercars of 5-10yrs ago, when automotive tech was more analog and less digital...

May not be the fastest/quickest when compared to extensively tuned Renntech or Brabus monsters, BUT all I know is that many others will still need to get used to seeing this intimidating view:

They probably give whats best for the car. I mean come on AMG gota bunch of engineers and stuff to give it what it should have.
So who are we to say whats enough or not enough. And if brabus and renntech can make it better than they make it better.
I believe amg alone is awesome and sufficient for most people.

it will smoke any sl out there , brabus , renntech , and kleemann , this car weights lighter thats 1 , this car also has 24% less drivetrain loss than regular sl , that means MUCH more power to the wheels , and also aerodynamics so dont be fooled by those HP #'s

I heard 300k plus as well. Also it will be faster then any tuned 65 no doubt about that. It will be some 400-500lbs lighter and that coil over set up will be much better then the abc crap. My car tuned only makes 605whp and I know a stock sl65 BS would run with me very easy.

It's not just about the hp. Its really about having a 'balanced package'. when one element of that package overwhelms the others, it ruins the driving experience.
When I set up tuning for our company, it isn't all about the last bit of hp (although we do have some very nice gains). Its about improving the 'usable power', making it more useful, broadening the power band, etc.
I am sure that AMG has made a great package with this car.

20+ to list......
Just my 2 cents on this car's avaliability and pricing. First, if MB wants to sell the car @ 320k a copy, you will probably find quite a handful of them because those would be cancelled orders. I should be able to have a firm number to report back sometime next week when my dealer receives the first one.

Couldn't agree with you more. Going back to the CLK Black Series, there are still quite a handful of new cars sitting at dealers, on top of them, more than 10 used ones found on Autotrader. The chances of seeing an SL65 Black on NYC streets, very slim, maybe one, which means by the end of next year, we should see about 20+ SL65 Black, brand new, at dealers lots.

These cars will not be sitting on dealer lots by this time next year; even before this time next year. They are only making 175 units people. More than half are being built as we speak. Price is $299.000, before gas guzzler, d&d, etc. This price has been finalized since the beginning of last month. Take a look at my post under delivery date/price. I posted a whole rundown on price and what comes with the car. I am fortunate to see 3

We all know the game being played here. Some of the first cars will go to enthusiasts that may actually keep them for a while.
Some will go to enthusiasts that think they will hold their value, they will put between 200 and 5000 miles on them and try to sell them in 6 months to a year.
Some of the first cars will go to the brokers that have relationships with dealers. They will look to flip them as quickly as they can and if they can't they will burn them as fast as they can helping to drive down the price.
So, what catagory do your buyers fall into? Are you charging over MSRP?
Don't get me wrong, I love the car and will pick one up once I see what happens in the market.
You keep hyping up the car and how hard they are going to be to get. It is not the case. You sound like one of the same people that will be calling me in six months begging me to buy one.
Let's see, in the last week I was offered (begged) to buy three Lamborghini's, four Ferrari's a CLK Black Series and two Maserati's.
So unless Colorado in not caught in the same economy that the rest of the world is, your starting to sound like a typical car salesman.
Cheers
