Any idea as to when the redesign will be released?

I have the option of buying a 2011 S for a great price but I'm worried that the redesign will come out within the next few months... Any ideas as to when the redesign will be released? Mid-late 2012? Early 2013?

I thought it was going to be a 2013 model, which means it would be available starting in the second half of 2012. Here's an article to that point:

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/mercede...-ar115338.html

By no means do I claim any accuracy from other peoples' work, but the point of it being an MY 2013 car, available in perhaps the late-summer of 2012 stands to reason. Heck, the prototypes are seen testing everywhere with camo blankets, so you know the car is pretty much road-worthy. It's just a matter of perfecting it now. There's actually a nice video on the linked page of winter testing in Sweden - check it out. At one point (3 min in), the driver gets stuck, and his wheels are just spinning in the snow. Bet he wished it was a 4Matic model!

Several auto mags have confirmed the new body style as a 2013. Based on the last several A8's, S-classes and 7-series launches it should be August or September as a good guess. Remember that if you are looking for a deal you won't see one on a 2013 for at least a year or more after the intro

W222 based on W221 and W220 releases

Based on the previous releases, I'm suspecting an early 2013 (Feb-Mar) release as a 2014 model. IIRC, when the W221 came out, it was available from Q2 2006 as a 2007 model . In Europe, they had it come out in the fall of 2006. Take that into consideration. Besides, the W221 is such a wonderful car compared to the W220. That was a maintenance nightmare.

For that to happen, it will have to come out in Europe in the next 6 months, which is extremely unlikely. I would guess mid-2013 release there and early 2014 in the U.S. (MY2015).

I would agree with you skrontz, but we have to follow Germany's 7-year body style plan. If the W221 was a 2007 release here and a 2006 release in Europe, that would put the 7th year here in 2014, possibly as an early 2013; In Europe, around the same time.

The US first deliveries of the 2007 W221 were in Feb 2006. If MB wants to get the new car out as before then look for it Feb 2013.

Since MB is the one that sets the plan, there is really no pressure on them to follow any particular schedule. It is basically what makes the most business sense. If history is any lesson, MB tends to get more mileage out of highly successful models (W126 and W140 being some of the notable examples) while replacing those that are less successful (W220) a bit sooner. In my opinion, W221 is quite good, so I don't see why they won't run it for a few more years; this is especially true considering that they just rolled out the new engines. Since they went through the trouble of integrating TT into W221 as opposed to waiting for W222, I would expect MB to get at least a few years out of this combination.

There is no chance of seeing W222 introduced in Geneva in a few weeks. Unless they roll it out in Amsterdam in April (also highly unlikely), they will have to push it to September. If they do that, the European showrooms will see it in early 2013 and US in late 2013 at the earliest.

W221 was introduced in early 2005 in Geneva. It's not happening for W222 this year.

You provide some very interesting and valid points, i.e. new 4.6L TT V8 integration and W222 timeline. However, I would most humbly believe that at least an announcement of the W222 is due within the next couple years, similar to a 2005 unveiling at Geneva with a subsequent European release in 2006 for the W221. This new S-Class has to do better than the current model, with accompanying safety goodies and features. That's a tall order, considering how much better this W221 has been compared to the W220. Only time will tell

It's looking like our 1 to 2 year timeline just got shortened to 6 months. The W222 is scheduled to be unveiled at the Paris Auto Show later this year.

I don't think it has been formally scheduled yet, so still looks like a speculation. The show is in September/October (7 months from now) with a likely European introduction 6 months later (March/April 2013) and US rollout at the end of 2013 or the beginning of 2014. This is pretty much the best case.

I love W221 styling and the best looking S Class ever made. W126 had more 7 years so why not make this model that long

I was gonna order W221 1/18 model kit for my collection and they said it was not available because new model coming soon and Germany don't put W221 S Class in stock . So, let's expect later this year but again I see it too early

I am afraid new model will not be as hot as W221 does

I couldn't agree with you more...judging by the spy pics, the W222 doesn't look as impressive as the current model. To make sure of myself, I googled some old W221 spy shots and it still looks much better than the W222 pics. In a way, I am glad because so many S-Class owners are itching to have the new thing. However, I, along with many others, will still feel like this W221 has that presence/respect/cache a Mercedes has. The W222 looks as though it's reverting to the more conservative styling of the W220. To each is their own.
