2003 Mercedes CLK500 Coupe
Suspension question

First off I have done lots of searches on this and it seems like a lot of people do it, use stock struts/shocks with Eibach lowering springs? I know it must not be ideal but this combo works well for many?
As for the factory shocks/struts whats the normal life expectancy for them?

It didn't good well on my 2006 Clk500 Cab. It was too bouncing for me. I replaced my struts/shocks with Bilstein.

2006 Facelift CLK500 Cab-
I actually have the stock shock/eibach combo on my car right now, it is a little rough but not bad enough for me to get new shocks yet. I think it's just because my last car had really stiff suspension and I'm kind of used to it. If you want the lowered stance with a closer to stock ride the bilsteins are the way to go though. Also, if you're paying someone to install the springs you might as well go ahead and get the shocks done at the same time to save on labor in the future.

i had a sub in my left rear adding about an extra 60lbs or so on that area alone for about 30k mi. i noticed that when i removed the shock, it was more easily compressed than the other side. -__-

but i guess that doesnt apply to your situation. if you are super **** about ride height, get coilovers. if not and you just want the looks, shocks/struts+springs are a money saving combo that many users here are fine with for everyday driving

also keep in mind how much more of the bumps in the road would you want to feel. i def notice the difference between my stockies and my konis but those are adjustable too.

so i guess its all about personal preference.

There is nothing wrong with the Sachs struts & shocks. Some also like Koni Yellows on the AMG's.

Thanks guys. Actually on my previous car I had Tein coilovers. I dont think I want to go that aggressive again. Just drop the Benz a little and move on.
