Mercedes releases new grill emblem that lights up
I'm surprised there no post on this yet but heres the link from today on Yahoo. Its states that its for certain models but the good news is that it can be retrofitted to other models. Check it out this led grill emblem is just way to cool. And be sure to watch the video.

A close up pic of it seems to indicate that the leds are from inside the emblem not strips tack on the outside. The star seems to have a cut outs for light. And if thats the price $550 they can keep it just a matter of time before someone on ebay will offer some aftermarket one for $149.

plus it's only essentially a parking light, turning on when you unlock/lock/open the doors. I want to see it person to see if it's cheesy/gimmicky looking

Agree with the above, need to see it in real life to judge whether it's a worthwhile thing or a gimmick/unnessary bling
Is it for the 3D grilles only or even the radar solid centred grilles ??

What are these "radar solid grills" that you speak of?

Any MB that's fitted with the 'Distronic' feature or adaptive cruise control
It's the solid type grille emblem on those grilles as it's a radome that contains a radar for the automatic vehicle drive or adaptive cruise control system, I love this feature and use it all the time on highways in my C Coupe
Here's a link to show it further: http://www.daimler.com/dccom/0-5-121...0-0-0-0-0.html

My dad has it on his ML350 and I will say that it is a whole star since the LED is molded in behind the chrome on the emblem. He actually had his wired to the DRL's so it's on all the time but honestly it isn't that bad. Not super bright, almost looks more like light reflecting on a beveled edge on the emblem.

I installed the "full time illuminated" star on my C350 sedan last Friday. Dealer wanted 2.5 hours to install it at $300. I did it with my handy 10mm wrench in just over 30 minutes in my driveway. The older style required installation of a control box in the car and interfacing to the CAN bus. The new one (full time lit) does not require any controller and just wires straight to the SAM (aka the fuse box for most of us!) under the hood/driver's side. Will post pix tonight when I get home.

Hi
How much you pay for it and where?
Thanks

If you purchase the full "kit" from MB it is $480 and that includes 3 parts; 207-817-04-16 (the Star itself, $290), 207-820-00-00 (6' cable from Star connector to fuse box $161), and 207-820-02-04 (short stub wire with inline fuse $23). If I were to do it again I'd just buy the Star, strip the wires and connect straight to the LED driving lights with a short piece of wire, saving $185. The fuse to the driving light will protect against any short circuit.
The $300 quoted was installation labor only, after I'd already bought the full kit from my dealer. Sorry, but not $780 cool... :-)
