2001 E55 (W210) - 25MPG
This is the Mercedes AMG that started the era of the performance four-door sedans. Opting for the AMG package added about $18,000 to the base price of the E-Class in 2001 and it went out the door for just over $70,000.
The 2001 model year E55 was a rare and beautiful version of the W210 E55 AMG and one of the best E55's made, of which only 659 E55 AMG's were produced in 2001. It has a 5.5 liter V8 that out of the factory produced 355hp and 391 ft-lb of torque, with a 5-speed "Touch Shift" Automatic transmission. Various road tests revealed ranges of 0-60 mph times in 4.8-5.3 seconds and quarter-mile times in 13.3-13.5 seconds at around 105-107mph.
Standard features include AMG Exclusive "Condor" Leather, Black Birdseye Maple interior wood trim, AMG sport suspension, AMG brakes, AMG/Avantegarde front and rear body aprons with "dynamic" side skirts, AMG body shell modification, HID Xenon headlights, Avantgarde fog lamps, Heated Multicontour AMG Sport Seats w/ power & memory, Multifunction Computer, Automatic Climate Control System, Bose Premium Sound System, Power tilt & telescoping multifunction sport steering wheel, Power Glass Sunroof, Power Rear Sunshade, and Blue Glass. The W210 E55 was the last MB that was trucked to and assembled separately by AMG.
For the past three years I have been using this beautiful car as a commuter to Sacramento, putting on 150 'easy' miles per day. I consistently get 26-28 MPG on this commute and with some 'around town' weekend driving my overall average is 24-26 MPG. I put on new Michelin rear tires last month ($525 cost). When you see and drive this car you will not believe it has 216,xxx miles
This is a clean, solid, and fast car - you will not find another car at this price point with such a balance of performance ,class and comfort.
In 2008, Car and Driver ranked this car the most fun you could have for $25,000

Affordably priced at $6,500. If interested, email me and post "E55" in the title - jhassler at hotmail dott com

Bump
Reduced to $5,999. I'm now driving an E550 which has more features but less panache (which is OK as I'm over 50 and commute 3,500/miles per month - should have bought a blu-tech).
Also replaced battery with new group 59 (heavy SOB). This car runs, drives, and looks great. Phenomenal price for an AMG, - about part-out value. This car may be the 1965 Mustang of its era (I still have a 1965 HiPo and 1969 Mach I, and regret selling my 1966 GT-350).

$5,999 ???
Crazy low price for a primary around-town driver or a second car.
I'm about to start taking offers on the parts alone.

Price drop to $5,799
I cracked a rim on my E550 and have been driving the E55 around.
I had forgotten how pure this car drives and how the seats hold you in tight with the air bladder adjustable side seat bolsters.

i like it. seriously considering instead of a 91 SEC or SEL. I like it it a lot but I am not ready to purchase just yet and it looks like you are ready to get rid of it fast.

Joe, based on our back and forth emails, I would like to thank you for taking the time to be an informed buyer.

LF, ask me whatever you want to know about the car and make me a realistic offer. The E430 is a great car but the E55 is , well, everything you want to do to an E430. More HP (and more importantly more torque), 18" wheels, better brakes, and fabulous front seats with 4 air bladders each. I was looking at E430 Sports before I bought this E55 in 2006. The difference in price was more than what I am asking for the car now ... and it was well worth the extra money!
BTW, I cracked a rim on my E550 and I've been driving the E55 for the last two weeks waiting for a replacement. It's 150 mi r/t to work so the mileage on the E55 is 218,000+/- now. I would not hesitate to drive the E55 across the USA tomorrow.
