I suspect that it is sensitivity to inductance that generates the errors on 55W

I use 55w. Error Free after Xenon=Present. Don't go above 8k. 6k is what I have, and it's super-white. I installed 8k on my brother's car. I must say, during the day, 8k's look sweet, but for Benz's, 6k looks less ricey.

Go max 6000K - remember the lights tend to go blue as they age. Or at least Bix do.

So if I want some blue, I should get 55W 8000k?

That beyond 6000k you lose usable light was not an opinion. That's a fact. Decide what you want. Do you want the best lighting possible for safety reasons or do you want to look like a ricer? If you want the best lighting upgrade, get 5000k to 6000k MAX in a 55w kit OR get a 4300-5000k MAX in a 35w kit. If you want to look like a ricer, go beyond 6000k. Understand that not only will it look like crap, but it also will not improve your visibility by much in inclement weather.
For me the choice was easy. I wanted every last lumen I could get. I'm stepping down to a 5000k bulb as soon as I can.

Xenon=Present is a setting in the computer that can be done at a dealership with a STAR computer. On the cars that come with Bi-X stock, the option for Xenon is set to "present" so the car knows not to throw bulb out warnings due to the lower wattage of the 35w OEM HID.
Some people successfully get their dealers to change their setting from "not present" to "present" to eliminate the errors that sometimes come along with fitting a HID kit. IMO, it's easier just to buy the error eliminators - they're $20 additional from DDM. You'll see them when you order. Get them.

And is the xenon=present at the dealership free or do they charge you for it?

even with the 55w it is a hit or miss on errors. you could try then first and see if they work correctly or not. the xenon to present setting can be free or up to like 120 depends on your history with the dealer. my dealer knows me well so they let me watch them do it. the star computer would not talk to my car until it was rebooted so it took like 20-30 minutes but the boss of the shop got it done for me for free . i do have oem bix which helped a lot. btw the star machine was plugged in to a s65 amg lol.

Do I need to get projector headlights? or will I be fine with the stock headlights?

projector headlights designed for hid would be optimal to reduce glare... just make sure your stock headlights are aimed correctly so you aren't blinding everybody on the road...

do you actually read anything on the forum or do you just need everything to be spoon fed to you?
