Supercharger oil change
2004 C230 Kompressor. Where is the oil fill/drain on the SC and is it easily accessable? Does anyone have DIY procedure?
Thanks!

You're right. The Jet Oil II is for M113 engines (I got it from the Factory Approved Service Products 2006 document - I didn't see one for 2005). The document for 2004 (Ironically, the URL references 2005) is here: http://www.billsden.org/fileadmin/me...ducts_2005.pdf.
It lists MB Supercharger oil for M271 engines. There isn't a maintenance interval in the maintenance booklet - not sure about the workshop software. I would be wary of anybody who said oil never needed to be replaced. They say that for transmissions and I don't even think MB really believes it. I don't know how to change it yet... Maybe somebody can chime in.

Maint. is listed on 2002 coupe w/ M111 as 100K miles.
But I can tell you on the M111 it's almost impossible to get the drain plug off.
I had the SC off the car and couldn't get the thing loose.
Best to just pull the thing and get it rebuilt at 100K miles or so.
I replaced mine at 120K miles just for reliability.
There's more in there that needs replacing than just the oil over time.

Yeah, now I'm looking to change my m111's SC oil. Doesn't sound good that above has mentioned the plug is impossible to remove, but I'm sure I can get it one way or another.
What oils can one get at the dealer for this?

I has my S/C rebuilt at approx 98k miles as preventative maintenance. I was told at the time, that my S/C was in excellent condition. You could probably get in up to 125k miles.
When you service the S/C, you also want to have the snout bearing replaced. Careful when you install the S/C back on, that area and the plenum is aluminum. It strips easily.
Have fun.

For myself, I am expecting lower operating life out of our SC, since we're using it for long durations on the autobahn.
Luckily, the SCs are plentiful here. If I do it, I might use the larger 230 supercharger, then get an ECU and code it for the car. Then I'd have a good bet.

Hi Guys,
has anyone finally done it on M111?
Was it really "impossible" to remove the drain plug?
I am planning to do on my w210 2.0 kompressor

Hmm coincidently I'm also thinking of changing the SC oil for my W210 2.0 Kompressor. Checked with my mechanic and he didn't seems to be keen to do this oil change. So I guess I have to DIY. I've located the original Mercedes SC oil which is S$50+ and I'll see if I can locate the plug. Probably easier f I remove the air intake pipes.
One thing I realized that the M111 engines here seems to have different SC than mine....? Mine's a W210 2.0 petrol engine M111.957. I believe the M111 engine listed here belongs to R170?
Does anyone know if the SC are different?

Hey,
Have you done it? I decided to move to spring, it's too cold outside, and I have no warm garage...
Here is the kompressor maker faq: http://www.roadranger.com/Eaton/Prod.../FAQ/index.htm
You have Eaton M45 in your car (Mercedes EVO M111)
You need ~110ml.
I also see the only difficult part is to reach the filler/drain plug.

A part of my job at my work is to work on (mostly broken!) Eaton superchargers (not the same model as used on MB), and probably s/c oil change is the least you need to worry about in my experience.
Most common failures I've seen are occurring at:
1. Snout/pulley ball bearing (mainly mileage dependent)
2. Clutch/damper (mainly driving style dependent)
3. Rotor needle bearings (rare, usually lac)
I did see a few oil leaking issues but that was because DIY owners put too much oil during oil change. There is no vent in the Eaton s/c and expanding oil volume when hot has no where to go but to leak between the casings.

If your supercharger has seen high mileage > 100,000, it may be best to just to send it out to be rebuilt and have the oil changed during the rebuild. That's my plan. My supercharger has a little over 151,000 miles so it's due for a rebuild.

Hi ZAP,
I finally found time to do it after buying all the parts I believe I needed. I bought 1 meter of air hoses, those that were used for fish tank air pumps. I believe this size should be ok along with a shampoo bottle's pump head.
But I encountered problems opening it. Mine could be a EATON M45 but I could only see EATON 206127 or the MB part A 111 090 09 80 written on it. The drain plug looks like a standard HEX 4 or 5mm but the 5mm wouldn't fit. So I used a 4mm and I felt I'm rounding the hex plug! Eeek!! So I'm wondering if it's a different metric somewhat like a 4.5mm Hex. Sigh. So I got to postpone this job another day - I couldn't find this size of HEX key at home. Gotta hit the tool shops.
Edit: Sigh - obviously I haven't done enough homework. Google seems say M45 needs a 3/16” HEX.

Gotta give up. . 3/16 hex was too big. I tried a lot of sizes. 4.5mm couldn't fit. 4mm would fix but it'll just not turn the plug, I think I'm doing further damages to the plug if I keep on doing it.

Hey Kianbeng,
Thanks sharing this info. That hex size problem is really strange.
3/16 is 4.7625 mm.
I recommend you to ask on other forums too (and don't forget to share here if you get useful info )
Or maybe contact Eaton directly?
http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsS...ers/PCT_221788
There is a contact link on the right side.
Or here are also some useful link/info: http://www.roadranger.com/Eaton/Prod.../FAQ/index.htm
Also, could be that the size is 3/16, but the plug is a but dirty/rusty (however does not seem on your photos), and just does not fit the proper size. We had this with the rear diff plugs, we had to "hit" a bit the proper tool to fit.
I found a guy selling on ebay, asked him about the tool type/size. If get reply, will share here.
I searched for EATON 206127, and it seems this is the M45.
My questions, how did you reach the kompressor draing plug so easily? For bottom, or from top? Did you remove some belts/pulleys/etc?

Supercharger oil change???
Hi,
I know this is an old thread, but my 2004.7 C180 M271 Supercharger [Kompressor], was made in the S.A. Plant. Uses the engine oil to lubricate the Supercharger. No need to change the Supercharger oil, gets done with every engine oil change!!!

Now about the replacing of the oil, at Stiegemeier FAQ is written:
When should I do maintenance on my blower (i.e. Grease rear bearings and replace the oil)?
Stock pulley – 25,000 miles
Upper pulley only – 20,000 miles
Upper and lower pulleys – 15,000 miles
On my M271 I use a ported M45 SC, which is spining at 21.000rpm with no problem for two years now, replacing the oil at 15.000miles. You can read more in the following link:

I just ordered oil.
Had a look at the screw head, I was shocked, as I could not find it.
Then looking carefully, it was there, but under 10 years of dust. Got an old toothbrush, cleaned the area.
And, HOOOPS!
MINE IS NOT HEX!
It looks torx. Probably this was your problem too.
Attaching image.
Looks torx

Zap, Like the man said, if you're thinking of replacing the oil, better to just replace it with a rebuilt one. I tired to remove that screw on mine, it's on good.
How many miles are you at? Is that pic with the SC still in the car?
