Becker Map Pilot?
Hey guys, I have the Audio 20 system and the Becker Map pilot seemed like a great way to get an in dash navigation system. My car didn't come with the pre-wiring necessary for the install. I think this is the case with Canadian vehicles, as a lot of the US members had the pre-wiring installed. Does anyone know of a part number for the pre-wiring for this navigation module? I phoned my dealership and they didn't have a clue when I gave them Option Code 508 or whatever it was.

From MY802, these are the parts you need:
Retrofit kit for vehicles without SA code 508
A172 870 0190
In addition to kit, retrofit also requires the following parts:
1x A001 820 7675 – aerial;
1x A211 820 0088 – adapter, aerial cable;
1x A204 440 6410 – wiring harness;
1x A204 440 3632 – wiring harness;
It is not an easy install if you havnt done anything similar before, just a heads up

Would something like this work? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Mercedes-Benz...item41765d9c36
And how much did the extra parts and dealer install cost?

If you are located in the EU that will work, all you need is pretty much a new retrofit aerial, the install is very easy in the facelift model, I have done it on my own car, switched from harman/becker to Comand NTG 4.5

Oh right. I will need a new gauge cluster for the larger screen as well, correct? Also, will it integrate with my existing media interface?

normaly it will be provided but that ebay link is for the facelift models, not the PFL's
since you don't have navigation on your 5" screen you'll also need a GPS antenna. other things you'll need for sure is the airvent panel between the screen and the unit because for the COMAND you need 2 extra buttons.
i'm not sure if your cable tree will do it but you have a 70% chance it will.
what do you mean with your existing media interface? the audio 20 module?

Gauge Cluster? no, the Comand unit in facelift models is pretty much bolt on, you only need to fit the GPS aerial under the dash and route the cable.
Fitting the cooling fan and ducts is no walk in the park, I didnt do it on this one.

Were you able to get the parts for the pre-wiring?

Were you able to get the parts needed for the pre-wiring of the Becker Map Pilot? If so, can you please share your experience, and how did you get the parts?
Thanks

Becker Map pilot Stinks, Don't let anyone tell you any difference. Get a smart phone and place it on your center consol. Scout and android app that is free is way superior to this junk. My house has been here for 30 years and this device WITH the latest update does not know it. Managing through the UN-thought out screens makes this device a must leave on the shelf. Don't say someone hasn't told you.

Sure. But does your Android phone have dead reckoning? How about integration with the instrument cluster? How about a fully integrated, cable free mount?
Oh yes, and best of luck in poor service areas.
A smartphone is a workaround, but it doesn't compare to the convenience of a fully integrated system.

I installed a Map pilot about a month ago. I am happy with it. Sure it doesn't have all of the total integration that a factory installed sytem has, but it is a much cheaper alternative.
As for map updates..that I'll give you. The latest update is over 2 years old. I have been in contact with Harman and have been told a new update will be out shortly.
Depends on what you want, I guess.

MB is also announcing Drive Kit Plus, which lets you connect your iPhone to the screen in the MB, and see the information directly in the screen (google maps, twitter, facebook for example)

Map pilot
Update. The first thing I wanted to do here is post a picture of my Android phone below the Map Pilot's 5 inch screen in my MB. With a question, which is the best Navigation device.
While I was messing around taking the picture with the Android and I accidently move the mouse from the state (FLORIDA) to the èright which brought up a new menu, which read City first, I selected this option. The main screen then had the selection to put in the zip code first, then the street. This made all the difference in the world. NOW, I selected the zip of my destination, the one in which I reside, and then the street and doing it this way, Becker Map Pilot Did Find my street and house number. I tried multiple destinations from which I had used Scout the Android app and Becker found every one. So This does work, there is still a bit of learning, but it DOES Work.
Regards.
