Give your C-Class an even more captivating presence on the road. As your drive, LED technology illuminates the Star in its grille with a gentle white glow.

Making your star shine brightly.
Using fibre-optics and LED technology the central star on the radiator grille of your Mercedes illuminates when you lock and unlock the car with your remote or when you open a door or the boot lid.Only functions when engine is switched off, not in conjunction with DISTRONIC (Code 233).
Available for the following passenger car models with central star:
M-Class (W166)
GL-Class (X166)
E-Class (W/S212 facelift and C/A207)
CLS-Class (C/X218)
C-Class (W/S/C204)
GLK-Class (X204)

The USA web site does describe the star as, "Give your C-Class an even more captivating presence on the road. As you drive, LED technology illuminates the Star in its grille with a gentle white glow."
I wonder if the function of the star varies by market. It may illuminate when driven for the US cars, but be restricted in other markets. It wouldn't make much sense if it only lit up when the car was locked or unlocked, although the reference to the limited illumination of the star only refers to the W204, not the W205..

I just had mine installed... Being here in the U.S. the star is on once you start the car. It actually is very subtle and add a nice touch...I'm definitely glad I got it!!

You're exactly right...it's not even bright enough to reflect off the car in front of you like the headlights do. I actually thought it wasn't working because I didn't see the reflection. I guess maybe that why it's called "illuminating"...

Sorry, naff.
Looks far too "Blingey" (if that's a word - which I somehow doubt) for my taste. But, each to their own.
All that said, it would probably make me look, if I saw one, at night....

I like it. It is discrete enough to be classy. If it changed colors, blinked to the beat of the music and had glitter that would be bling and tacky. Does seem a little expensive though.

So far everyone that's seen it has "complimented" it...my buddy is now looking to do his CLS. Yes pricey...I negotiated it into my deal!!
