Broken supercharger pulley bolt
Hi, I've been lurking for awhile, but this is my first post.
I was installing a Code3 pulley in my SRT-6 today, and over-tightened the bolt. I got the broken bolt out, but I can't find another bolt anywhere. Does anyone have any idea where to get one? I called Chrysler & MB, and they say they can't get just the bolt alone, I'd have to spend $1100 to get it.
It's still under warranty, so I'd like the bolt to look like the original. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

FYI - M8 bolt
I'd try to find a speciality hardware or metal equipment store locally. I have one near me that sells absolutely everything, but I'm in the SF Bay Area.

Thanks, I found an M8 bolt that, I think, will work for the time being...I'll try it out tomorrow. Long term, I was hoping to find one that looked original though. The original wasn't threaded all the way, and was hollowed out...I guess to prevent over-tightening by people like me.

I would personally go into Chrysler or MB and let them tell you to your face that they aren't available. I bet they'll look a little harder if you're there

We have upgraded, stronger bolts available, which will be for sale shortly. If you're currently in need of one shoot me an email to Aaron@code3performance.com and I'll see what I can do.
Sincerely,
Aaron

my supercharger bolt is well worn out at the top(no thread section) the merc dealer also said to me that i need to purchase the whole f##king pulley to get the bolt as they dont sell it seperately)brandon said he will sort me out when he sends me the heatexchanger

I am still using like 5 wood screws to tighten one airbox...until I find a suitable replacement...

My understanding is that the pulley bolt is hollow as it also acts as a vent for the system, not simply as prevention against over tightening. Using a solid M8 bolt as a replacement may have bad repercussions. Trying to source the bolt through MB is not possible “computer says it only comes with the pulley kit” is their only reply. It might be possible to source an original through IHI (the company that manufactures the supercharger for MB). Otherwise I suggest looking on the web for a local engineering company and asking them to drill a 3mm hole down the middle of and M8 bolt, I had this done recently and it took about 15 min and cost the price of a couple of beers.

As a supercharger spins the oil pressure inside it increases, a vent is generally provided in order to stop excess pressure causing any damage. In high pressure superchargers used by many tuners and in racing applications the amount vented is significant enough to often require a ‘catch can’ in order to avoid this oil being deposited all over the engine bay. Very little if any is vented through the pulley bolt on the MB, but it is there as a precaution.
Should the oil pressure reach a critical point without a vent in place, it will still find a way out of the supercharger. This may or may not happen in a place that is visible, and it may or may not cause any significant damage, but given the price of a new supercharger I’d advise having a hollow pulley bolt.

I brought this thread back because I was wondering if anybody has sourced the actual bolt since this thread was written. I'm not sure if my bolt was broken before I owned the car or if it is just short, but either way the threads aren't looking too healthy. I figure it's better to search and find one now before I really need it. If I have to, I guess I can get an M8 bolt hollowed out, but I'd rather haver the real thing.

no bolts available. i was actually told at the mb dealer that they have the bolt but will only sell it in the pulley kit. nice huh! i was going to have a bolt made for a spare but the machine shop wanted a minimum order of 100 bolts at wait for it.... 10$ each!!
if you do find the proper bolt its 20 nm torque not ft/lbs. thats 14.5 ft/lbs . most try to torque it at 20 ft/lbs which will break the bolt

Revising the thread: any suggestions where to buy this bolt? I was at the dealer today and inquired with the same reply of complete assembly 55 from picture #B09100000005.110127 at a price of $4.5k AUD. Any other options other than to get it the M8 machined (hollow 3mm). Code 3 had aftermarket bolts...any advice where they were sourced or whom may have some?

I came accross this: (http://www.crossfireforum.org/forum/...utch-bolt.html) from the crossfire threads alternately read that it is hollow basically as a safety net for over tightening (will break) not for excess oil pressure. Two trains of thought on the subject. I am going down the path of purchasing some bolts and see if I can get them drilled (3mm) from Probolt (Titanium Hex Head M10 x 1.25mm x 25mm Race Spec)I don’t see any other option other than this route....

Can anyone advise if the correct bolt size is M8 x 1.25 x 25 ? I guess a bolt is just a bolt OEM or not.

Can't find the material or confirmation of the bolt dimensions. My luck I will pull it off and it will break, then I will be running around getting an aftermarket. Wanting to avoid this and get a couple made as spare.

Excellent...Thank you very much. I was looking into that (tensile strenght) after your post. I have bolts on my brain...going nutty. Therefore a Grade 5 ; M8 x 1.25 x 25 with a 3mm hole drilled in it are the spec's for a replacement bolt ?
