Thumbs down C32 Transmission Replacement

Sort of bad news with my car, long story short it needs a transmission... I'm exploring options as to what I can do with it at the moment. Am I better off with a rebuild kit (if you know of a good one let me know) or a new transmission all together? For a new transmission am I okay to use any 722.6 Merc tranny? or would it have to be specifically out of another C32? Having my Mercedes dealer rebuild the transmission for $11,500 isn't an option for me so obviously I'm looking to be as cost-effective as possible. Any help is much appreciated...

First, who says that you need a transmission? Lately I have seen way too many "mechanics" incorrectly advising forum members here. Also look into the Crossfire SRT6 transmissions. They are 722.6 and may be priced more reasonably. If you can, avoid 2002 and early 2003 transmissions due to bad radiators and possible glycol contamination issues.

I took the car to my Merc dealer after having some very unsmooth shifting and a lot of grinding coming from the tranny, their the one's who said the transmission is pooched. That being said I'll look into the crossfire transmission, hopefully they will be priced a little better for not having worn the three-pointed badge. Thanks for the tip!

eclectic assortment of cars
These guys are supposed to be good, Sun Valley Mercedes dismantlers - but they also rebuild Mercedes transmissions:

I've never used them, but MarcusF (posts a lot on the C36/C43 forums, and see his excellent website here: http://www.marcusfitzhugh.com/CLK/DIY/ ) says they are good guys too.

hi, it looks you have a same problem as I do... Vibration/buzzing/harsh on light acceleration or going uphill. I recently sent my transmission fluid to Black Stone labs, they found some antifreeze and a lot of Iron in it. I brought my car to Transmission specialist for another check up. In first 5min of driving my car he told me that is tranny... Torque converter and cluches may be worn too.
shop estimated to do rebuild tranny $3600 or $950 for labor to put used tranny on it. You can you a website car-parts.com to look for used transmission. I found one for myself with 58k miles 90days warranty for $800.
there is couple more decent left. It's your call to do swap or rebuild.
I decided to save some money and do a swap. Every year I'm dropping about 2-3k to fix that car. But I love that car so much and cant get rid off it...

Used tranny is usually the way to go...

These cars will cost a little more $ to maintain, but as soon as you get in and push that gas pedal it's 100% worth it

...especially when it's some 2-door ricer and you just smoked it with your 4-door family sedan

exactly

I hope to get my car back on a road after I will install used tranny. I have EC pulley, PSK and NW Cold air intake sitting in my closet waiting to be installed.
