Crank pulley wobble
I'm purchasing a c32 2003, the build date on the car side door says 02/07 , but I notice a wobble of the crank pulley. How serious is it and any advice of the year if vehicle. Thanks in advance

Common for the harmonic balancer on the m112 and m113 engines to develop a wobble. It's not just a crank pulley, it does double duty. It absorbs excess crankshaft vibrations as well. It is a very finely weighted / machined piece. There is an elastomer inside this pulley that tends to deform over time, causing the pulley to loose balance and wobble like what you are describing. It is rather serious. I work for the dealership, and have seen a case where the owner neglected the pulley wobble, and eventually the pulley wobbled far enough back that it was making contact with the front timing cover... it eventually wore a hole through the front timing cover and all the engine oil leaked out. Costly repair, as usually this damages the timing chain and or guide rails as well. My advice.. change it!

Yes, the only way to remedy the solution is to replace the pulley. The elastomer has deformed and or been lost from the pulley and there is no way to restore it. Now's a good time to upgrade to a performance pulley. Look up your vin number on carfax and it'll say what year the car is.

harmonic balancer bolt
I have the same issue and am using an 1/2" impact to remove bolt only it will not come loose. I have tried the hold tool and a breaker bar with a 5 foot pipe on the end and it will not budge. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a way to get it loose? This is really pissing me off as it is an easy fix once the bolt is loose. I have a 2003 S500.
Any help would be greatly appriciated
Thank you

I don't recommend aftermarket. I had an aftermarket and it caused my idle pulley to seize. After the dealer replaced the idle pulley and belt, it seized again within 50 miles. The original balancer was put back in and no issues since...

Thank you juwang. I have the correct pulley but I have tried (with no avail) to make a tool instead of having to buy one and with many different attempts and redesigns it will not work. Does anyone have a tool for sale or even rent. I would appreciate it if that were possible. I would be happy to pay you for rental.

Well even though no one answered to my plea for help with the tool I did get the tool and found it worked perfectly. I got the new balancer installed and torqued down and put everything back together. 1 question is now is why does the engine seem to have a knock? It does not set off the code and engine runs smooth and cannot feel it but can hear it? I took the belt off again (thinking it was an issue with a power steering pump but that was not it. It was sitting for about 5 weeks but I cannot see this causing an issue. Any Ideas?
