thinking about exhaust mods

I currently only have my resonator deleted.

I want my car louder so Im thinking what else I can do. I dont have much to spend however.

Would the car pass smog if I did the secondary cat delete? Would the car be any louder even and is it worth it?

Could I do x pipe or is y pipe the only option?

Yes, you could delete the resonators & secondaries & still pass emissions testing. No CELs either. I have done an x-pipe on my E55 & a y-pipe on the C43/no resonators; both have passed emissions with these setups.

You could do an x-pipe instead of Y & run dual on the C43 as long as you have a dual inlet muffler (maybe the 210 E55 muffler will fit?)

What year is your e55?

With my 5.4 swap....the car is a lot quieter. I feel like my stock motor sounded like that video with resonator delete only

It's a 2002; but I got rid of it at 158k; I miss that car now, but was in the family since '03 so I got a little bored.

I've thought about switching to an E55 muffler, but in the end decided the sound & possible gains weren't convincing enough to switch it up again. I feel the secondaries/resonator delete is a perfect balance for not being overwhelming in cabin, but getting on it still provides a tone strong enough to make you grin.

I feel like the e55 sounds nicer.

What are the differences between the two exhaust setups other than double pipes?

Is diameter the same?

i run without secondairy cat's no mid pipe/original silencer but with only the rear muffler.
engine is 5.5 from a 2000 E55.
i think ( and everyone who i see his head turn) my car sounds wicked.
i run a dual pipe all the way from the left and right cylinder bank to the end which ends in my Original/OEM AMG/C43-muffler.
the connection made to the stock muffler is made after the rear differential.

But you habe a different muffler and custom headers so I cant coynt on my car sounding the same.

Im only thinking about sec cat delete and running either a single or dual pipe all the way to the stock muffler

As said do the secondary cat with the resonator (you've done this) delete as a first step, or go full out like Dutch626 https://mbworld.org/forums/c36-amg-c...st-set-up.html

this issue can vary from car to car, engine to engine.

my 99 C43 and 98 C43 both have completely stock exhaust systems. At some point the rear half of the exhaust on my 98 was replaced with new OEM.

My 98 car sounds MUCH MUCH quieter than my 99. My 99 is somehow faster than the 98, and the 99 sounds much meaner and louder. I can't explain it! Both are C43's with high miles, but both cars behave very differently!
