Resale value of 6.2 litre C63 after new 5.5L biturbo hits shelves

Hi guys,

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on whether the resale value of the current 6.2 litre C63 will be once the 5.5 litre bi-turbo hits the shelves?

I guess some things to consider might be:

  • I know the 5.5 will have more power stock but with tunes etc on the NA 6.2, what is the HP comparison?
  • The 5.5 will also have significantly better fuel economy. This doesn't bother me but will it bother people when comparing the models?
  • What will the 5.5 sound like compared to the 6.2? Surely it wouldn't sound as good?
  • Do you think that the 6.2 resale might actually improve when the 5.5 hits the shelves? ie. do you think some people might prefer the larger 6.2L NA engine?
  • Will the 5.5 have better tuning capabilities via increasing boost levels etc?
Interested in people's thoughts on this one.

Cheers,

John

no one knows for sure the results, but I'd guess that like anything new model, the older model loses value and most people will want the newer version that's just how life works, why do you think divorce is such a huge business?

will some people prefer the NA motor? Yes, but I'd guess when the 5.5TT or whatever replaces it in the C63 arrives, all of the fanboys will jump on board

as for the sound, you can listen to the sound of the new CLS63--on the video it just doesn't sound as good--I think our NA motors have one of the nicest sounding exhaust notes ever produced!

AMG resale values always sucked. So that is not going to change. I dont think its coming to the c-class because it costs too much. Anyway the current 6.2 is the best NA motor AMG ever built.

I was under the impression that the 5.5L was coming to the C63 at some stage? I'd probably prefer it not to for the potential of it negatively affecting resale.

That would also be my guess. Someone else in another thread said to watch what will go into the new AMG SLK.

All AMG's take a ride down an elevator shaft when it comes to resale value. This will also happen to the C63's.

I have been told my several top MB brass that the 5.5 will make the transition into every line by end 2012.

C being the bottom of the totem pole - my guess means Nov -Dec 2012 for our cars.

I'll take the NA 63 engine over any turbo V8. So if the resale values may drop, I might take advantage.

I hope they put the new 5.5TT motor in the C, hopefully there will be plenty of room to turn up the boost....

I'm hoping they do put the 5.5 in, and the resale of the 6.2 drops, so I can pick one up! People are still asking $45K+ for '08s, I need them to get under $40K.

45k is a bargain.
Spare a thought for us in Australia. You cannot buy any C63 for under 120k no matter what age it is. The cost new is $165,000 inc. on road costs in Australia.

What I like!
The C63 will continue to depreciate like cars always do... with the biggest loss coming in the first year, and depreciation levelling off every year after that.

SOOOO true!!! I think I'm going to go blind reading about another one of our friends across the pond complaining about the price of a C63 @ $45K!!! hahahaha (just kidding guys)

I guess that's why our resale in Australia isn't suffering that badly because the cars are quite expensive hence limiting the number of them on the road.

I paid $162K AUD ($167K USD) for my car on the road with Keyless Go, Rear view camera and LSD.

There's no way you could have bought your car over here in the states and shipped it to Australia? Cause DAMN that's a lot of $$! You could've bought two of them...and still had change left.

Guys, since we're on the topic of pricing across geographies again, may i remind everyone that in singapore we get hit with the *****stick par excellence. A new c63 costs SGD374k (288k USD). That's besides the 5700 USD the government imposes on road tax each year to keep a 6.2L motor on the road.. for one to drive from stoplight to stoplight. She only gets to flex her muscles on the highways in Malaysia :<

I feel for you mate. I have some friends who have lived in Singapore and they said a basic car like a Honda Jazz etc can cost in the order of $60K (can't remember but it was outrageous)!! In saying that, I saw a Bentley, Rolls and a Ferrari parked outside my hotel last time I was there - I'd HATE to think what they cost - apparently they're owned by the bloke who owns all the property on Orchard Rd.
