GTech Pro SS - Results and impressions
I finally got my GTech Pro SS Fanatic Series and decided to take it out for spin. Here are some initial impressions and data:
1. The winshield mount is pretty sturdy, but it is hard to get mount/dismount the meter from the mount.
2. It locked on to 9 satellites within a few minutes.
3. Very easy to time 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs. Just press one button and let it rip!
4. Can only store 12-16 runs in internal memory, and once the memory is full, it won't record new runs until you delete old runs...a bit annoying.
5. It froze on me in the run viewer/deletion screen a couple of times.
Here is some data:
Fastest 0-60 runs:
1. 3.98 secs
2. 4.06 secs
3. 4.10 secs
Fastest 1/4 mile
1. 12.31@114.3mph
2. 12.37@116.5mph
3. 12.41@104.8mph
The only mod I am running on my car is an ECU tune (Eurocharged). Everything else is stock (stock Pirelli's), and I have around 1600 miles on it. I launched the car in ESC Sport/Sport D1 and featherd the throttle.

The 3.98 second run felt amazing! Almost like a roller coaster. You know when you get the launch right and the car just takes off with the right amount of wheelspin.

I wonder how accurate it is comparing to Vbox. your 0-60 result are really fast if that what it was. Also i would like if someone can explain to me the 1/4 mile result
Fastest 1/4 mile
1. 12.31@114.3mph
2. 12.37@116.5mph
3. 12.41@104.8mph
11.6 mph difference between run 2 & 3 while only .04 sec difference ???

That must be a typo. It should be 114.8 not 104.8...
You are correct you can't have that much difference.
Amazing 0-60 numbers by the way. Wow.
However, I would have hoped that you'd be under 12 secs with the tune.

I didn't have anything to compare it with, so I'm not sure how accurate the meter is. They do claim that it polls GPS at 10hz, so I think it must be accurate. I did get a few 5-6 second runs when I couldn't launch well, but most of my runs where in the 4 second range. I can't wait to see what the car can do with sticky rubber. I have also been trying to learn how to feather the throttle better, so I think I can improve a bit.

If anyone in SoCal has another way of timing 0-60 runs (VBox, Dynolicious, etc.), I'd be happy to meet up and run your or my car with both devices to get a sense of accuracy. I am free on Sunday afternoon.

Don't know if the G Tech Pro has a one foot roll-out feature and if that's used, then the times would be a little lower.
BTW I need to learn how to launch the car better too as a latest gen Camaro was trying to mess with me last night and I thought it'd be a perfect time to test our my new tires (Hankook EVO V12 in 265-18), I was already in both sport modes we both punched it. I probably had too much throttle and the ESP cut in a brief moment so we were head to head for what it seemed like an eternity, and then the 6.2L monster caught a second breath and took off, and blew the GM pig into the weeds.

I am guessing those 0-60 times are with a 12" rollout programmed in which will will make a .3-.5 difference in the times. So add .3 - .5 to the times shown. That is how much of an advantage a 12" rollout gives you on the time clock, amazing! My old G-Tech RR says I get a .3 sec advantage with a 12" rollout on my 6200 lb. '03 1500HD 6.0L.

Im really interested in the new Gtech specially for the price over half the price of the V-box with only a few less features. Hopefully its as accurate though. Please update with more logs or if you get any track runs to compare.
Thanks

Guys that are saying "0-60 in 3.9 is incredible/insane/mind-boggling/etc!" - really? I thought C&D tested a completely stock C63 and ran a 3.9? Other mags were in the 4.1 or so range IIRC, for stock cars - isn't it likely we'd expect a tuned car to match (or better) those results?

It hasn't fallen off the holder yet and the build quality seems to be good, but not great.
Problems so far:
1. I blew a fuse on the power adapter because I didn't turn it off before plugging it into the unit. The power cable has a headphone jack at the end instead of a more conventional plug, so it can short out when plugging/unplugging. To counter that, the thing that plugs into the cigarette adapter has a on/off push button. Luckily, radioshack carries the fuse I needed.
2. After every run, the unit saves the timing info into one of the available slots, and there are only 16 available. Once you are out of slots, you have to manually select and delete runs to make room for new ones, otherwise it won't even show the results at the end of a run. This is very annoying. The unit has frozen on me multiple times while cleaning out old runs. Every time it freezes, I have to restart the unit and wait a minute or two to get a GPS lock.
3. I don't know how to download the captured information to a computer without jumping through hoops. The unit has a Serial port in the rear. A serial port in 2010!!! I guess I could buy a serial to USB cable, but then I also have to buy a power adapter to power the unit when it's connected to a computer (there is no built in battery). Even if I had the cables, the unit does not come with any instructions on how to connect it to a computer.
Overall, this doesn't feel like a polished product at all, but there is nothing else out there in this price range that uses GPS for more accuracy (VBox products are way more expensive), so I'll keep it around for now.
