Any M156 engine failures? Cracked pistons? bent rods?
I am about to mythify the old said of a man in midlife crisis by buying long tube headers, a tune and some mid sections. Before I do that I would like to know if anyone from this forum knows of any M156 engine failure.
I must admit I am terrified of having to do any expensive repair in the event of a cathastrophic engine failure.
How safe are the M156?. In the past years I read all kinds of forums posts and I found a lot of Lambos engine with engine fires, LS7 engines from the Z06 seizing, STI engines with lean conditions, and other motors with oil starvation issues, etc, etc.
I am hoping the M156 is bulletproof with just tune and headers but the engine is sort of new and there are not a whole lot of people with high mileage modded engines. Any inputs from you would be great.

It is a OK package. It wasn't available when I purchased my car. Besides that, I still want the headers. Obviously there are some risks modding the car but a true engine failure figure would help a lot. I am days/weeks away from purchasing.

As far as I know the M156 engines are bullet proof. My tech said the same thing, he said the transmission will give out before the engine does.
AMG engineers have put the M156 through hell and back, and its made it out alive.

I am hoping that the ECU has a default map/set up to put the car into limp mode in ther worst of the worst case scenarios. I am terrify when I look at the price of a engine but again I never leave my cars alone .

'09 C63 AMG
Just remember that the C63 6.2L AMG engine is in fact a "detuned" version of the same 6.2L AMG engine (with much more HP/TQ) found in all the other 63 AMG's. MB left plenty of room for increased HP/TQ on this engine and then some.

Your comparing other makes of cars that are
Not in the same league as Amg when it's comes to bulletproof reliability.
The 63 motor didn't win all the awards it's has for nothing.

I've been here for a year mate, and NO ONE I've seen has written anything about an engine ****ting itself.
Like above, I'd be more concerned about a diff or gearbox than the engine.

What a great read. Thank you for the link.
The tranny and rear would be the weak point on the C63 and I havent heard of one going except on Dad's and hes was at 650HP doing NOS shots. Not sure if it went completely though...
The only thing stopping me from LT's is that its stupid loud.

The tranny in a 2008 E63 is different than the tranny in a C63? Are you sure? BTW, I just mean tranny/hardware, not TCU... I know the software is different.

The motor IS bulletproof and the tranny is good on just motor(N/A). Just stay away from power adders.
The motor is probably one of the best N/A motors ever assembled.
You do need to make sure the headers and tune are tried and true and match. I have had the MHP L/T headers and tune for over a year with NO challlenges until we put nitrous on the car. Then we found out the factory rated 542rwtq is a true number. No buffer built into that number. Anything above that will play havoc on the tranny clutch packs etc......
We are going back to motor and only use the nitrous for high speed runs where the car is up and running before engaging the nitrous.
