Brake Job: question for the DIYers
Guys,
When you replace brake pads, do you remove the caliper, or simply try to get the pads in with the caliper still attached?
I've only done one brake job before, adn removed the caliper. Seemed unnecessary.

If its your first time removing them, you'll need a 21mm socket and a good wratchet and breaker bar. The 2 bolts that hold them on are tight! Unless you are under a lift, you will need to turn the wheel all the way to the opposite side to turn your breaker bar.

There is an old DIY somewhere on the w203 section that outlines how to replace on the "Sport" versions which is similar to the C32. That setup is a 4-piston front and ours is 6-pistons so the procedure is the same. When you pop the pin out and remove the clip that holds the pads onto the calipers, you will need to push (retract) the pistons so you can slide the new thicker pads onto the holder on the caliper. Some people use the existing pads and brake pad spreader.
Also, depending on how much brake fluid you have in the reservoir, you may need a turkey baster to suck some brake fluid from the reservoir. If it is too full and you retract the pistons, you may have a spill that will ruin your paintwork.

Changing pads on the 6 or 4 piston calipers is a no brainer. So simple a cave man could do it. It's really that easy.

Me no like forgetting to suck out brake fluid from reservoir and having it make spill.
Good cave man wear rubber gloves so cave woman let him touch her later. She no like brake dust in hair while I drag her to bedroom.
