2012 c63 AMG
Hey guys, so i have been in love with the c63 amg for about 2 years now. finally picked up my 2012 c63 the other day! the car is amazing and i am extremely impressed and in love with it. i just have a question, i know the car gives you instructions on how to break the car in, but i was wondering how good those instructions are? the car has 100 miles on it right now, and i was just wondering how many RPMS are safe to hit until a certain amount of miles...? many people stress not to beat the car until it is broken in..what do u guys think?

I have 1200kms on my car right now and Ive pretty much stopped following the break in around 1000kms in only C. It sits in S+ or M now and have had the revs up to 6000 often... I notice no problems with the transmission, or diff. I will change the oil at 2000kms like the manual says. Besides that, Im getting better than expected fuel efficiency (10.9-~15.0 l/100km) and loving how this car takes corners!
I know what the break in instructions are, but what no one seems to be able to answer is what will happen if we dont follow them? For all of you that are religious with the break in let me know why you are *****ing out, because Im enjoying the sh*t out of this car. hahaha

My 2009 I did the proper breakin and it burned a lot of oil. My 2010 I put a tune on it at 500 miles and drove it hard. I didnt "Beat the ****" out of it though. My 2010 barely burns any oil at all.

YOu would think that following the instructions would increase the odds of trouble free motoring. Doesn't guarantee it, though. I didn't follow it to the letter but I did not cane the car either. We'll see what happens but whatever happens it's covered...

Same thing boys. I drove it like I would any other day right off the show room floor and I don't have near as much problems as other guys with oil consumption. I think I've only seen that light come on once in the 50,000km I've had it.
To each their own. I would personally drive it like you would any other day from day one.

I was talking to my service advisor the other day about this issue and likewise he said that cars which were driven harder tended not to drink oil like the cars driven gently. He said that the new synthetic oils work so well at preventing wear that the whole bedding in process of the engine takes longer than with the traditional mineral oils. Hence the harder you drive it, the faster the bedding in process and the lower the oil consumption.

I have had several cars built by someone who builds engines for a 24 Le mans team. Always drove the cars hard from the very first start up to seat the rings and never had a single problem. From what I gathered from him you need high load to help everything seat correctly.
You don't want to be out there beating on it but you need to put it through it's paces with some high RPM's. Also don't drive consistently at the same RPM for an extended period of time for the first 100 miles or so.

I agree with Propain
I run my last C63[2008] in as per sticker and as it says in the handbook! 4500rpm, the car liked about 1lt of oil every 1500mls and then settled in at about 11000mls sold it at 29000mls
On Comparison did factory collect of 2011 C63 from Stuggart back to UK 5th September did 1250mls and drove it a bit wilder and as of yesterday 1450mls im still at the correct level.
Think they are all different on the the oil consumption , depending what type of driving you are doing although I still get cloud of black smoke upon start up sometimes? the same as the last one. This obviously not cured

If you do a search, you'll find that this has been discussed several times in the past, and I asked the same question myself. After hearing all the arguments back and forth, I concluded that MB likely knows more about this than others, so I recommend following their break-in rules. It will be painful, but you'll get through it soon enough.
I just got a 911 a couple of months ago and break-in period for that is 2000 miles. It's been painful (again), but I'm almost there now, and glad I followed the rules.

Its so important the MB put a sticker on the windshield only for AMG cars and owners. Probably because they get stupid advice on forums telling them to disregard break in instructions.
