why call it 6.3 if its a 6.2litter?
Just asking why did amg badge the car with 6.3 symbols all over including the RPM guage inside the car if it's really a 6.2 litter? When people ask me if it's a 6.2 or 6.3 litter i kinda hesitate to answer because im really not sure myself? i guess my question is, is the car a 6.2 or 6.3 litter, and why was it badged 6.3 if it's a 6.2? thanx!

Well, I guess that the German law doesn't make any sense because a 6208cc is closer to a 6.2 than a 6.3 liters.
It is like me saying I have a 12 in dik when it is like a 7" one..., it just doesn't make sense.
I know for a fact that the car was advertize as a honor and legend of the old racing Mercedes 300 sedan 6.3.

[Editor's Note] Press release first mentions 6.3-liter V8 engine and then later states 6208 cc. To comply with German law, Mercedes-Benz is required to round up the displacement figure to 6.3 when used for marketing purposes.

Who cares, the fact that its a 6208cc tells you big ***** anyway. So what does it matter if AMG/Daimler Benz calls it a 6.3.
This car is an animal.
BTW the new 5.5 BiTurbo also shares the 63 nomenclature. Go Figure.

In germany you have to pay the annually taxes for every started liter, so I pay for that little 8 at the end of cubic capacity specification the full 6,3 price
So if someone ask me, I drive what I pay for, a 6,3 liter engine

I find this thread to be hilarious. The fact that we have owners, that buy these cars without knowing much about them. This is too funny, I knew more about my car than the salesman, because I reserched the product before buying it. I could tell you everything about the car.

I call it a 6.3l I refuse to call it a 6.2l. I have never driven a car that was exactly a X.X liter. Everything is rounded up. My 3.0T is 2969CC. My 2.5l is 2489CC. I can keep going but I think you all get my point. Calling it a 6.2 is selling the car, the brand, and the engine short.
If you measure a 7" exactly call it a 7" but we all know you measured 7.25" where even the law allows you to round up.. plus if you call it an 8" I doubt she will get the tape measure out to verify.

The 6.3 is a reference to the M100 engine, which was used in the 300SEL. Not only was that the first V8 MB produced, the 300SEL was the first car AMG dialled up. That car was called a 6.3 because the original motor was (approximately) 6.3l, but that AMG version wasn't - it was punched out to 6.8l. THAT car, set a new standard for ***** out sedans and achieved no small degree of fame or notoriety. Our motor, the M156, is the first motor actually produced by AMG, rather than just using parts added to an MB designed engine. There may be some truth in the rounding up, there may be a little butt covering to silence the haters, but its about the M100.
Thats why they are continuing to use the '63' moniker now that the the displacements are all much lower.
