Advice on getting an AMG
Hello everyone!
I am posting this across a few of the AMG forums on MB world so please forgive me. I need some advice.
I am a former E92 BMW M3 owner. I recently traded in that car for a new 2012 E350 coupe which I love. I think I have now become I Benz guy. I love everything about MB and really appreciate how much better it is to be a MB owner compared to a BMW owner, IMO.
Problem is, I miss the power and performance of the M3. I now regret to some degree, not getting the E550. In every other way, the E coupe is much better than my M3. I only have 1000 miles on my E coupe but can't even think what kind of depreciation I will face if I try to trade it in for let's say a new C63. I am sure we are talking somewhere of at least $5-10K.
I thought I had was to get a older AMG for somewhere around $20-25K so that I can have my performance car on weekends or for joy rides. For a daily driver, the E coupe is perfect.
So, with that in mind, what should I do? Try to trade the E coupe back in or find a nice used AMG. If the latter, then which one do you guys suggest? I would be the only one driving. I am basically looking for something comparable to the M3. Any other suggestions are appreciated. If you want to call me crazy, then that's fine as well
Thanks,
Jay

Go with whatever makes you happy. Negotiate with a dealer and if you can afford the lose... gun it. You only live once!
Just make sure you get the car you really want this time.
BTW The longer you wait the more money you will lose.

I never buy new. But my advice, buy it 2 years after it drops. This is the time when the car loses most of its' value. After that, they lose about i'd say, 1500-2k a year after. (Lots of variables come in to play, however)
Example, whats a rough price of a new C63? 65-80K? Fully optioned?
I'm looking at prices of 09's right now at the auction and their sitting right at about 44k with mileage under 50k.

Get a CPO MY2010 w/ P31 for around $53 and you will be set. There were too many minor issues with 09's, like the iPod interface, that will put me off those. However, if you can get a good deal on those, then it still be worth looking.

I agree. I think an 09-10 C63 (CPO) with 30k miles or less would be the way to go.
I don't think a second car to get your fix is the best option here. You can have your cake and eat it too by getting a used C63. It is remarkably docile as a DD, but when you feel the urge, well, it DELIVERS!

If you haven't driven an E550 coupe, I'd suggest that you at least try it. I was having a tough time deciding between the E550 sedan and the C63. I drove them both, twice, and finally decided on the C63. While we were writing up the deal I talked the wife into driving the E550 coupe and we ended up trading in her '08 E350 for a '12 E550 coupe. Now I get to drive both and I enjoy whatever is in the garage when I leave the house.
The E550 has a lot of power, though not as much as an AMG, and it's very comfortable and quiet inside. The only issue is headroom in the coupe.

I was in the same shoes! I was thinking about an E550 coupe but the handling is not up there with M3 or C63 though it is gorgeous inside and out!!!! finally I decided on C63 coupe after a test drive and i am now waiting for it! C63 c is not as good looking as an E coupe but power and handling outweigh the appearance !
if money allows go for C63 coupe if not then buy a used C63 ! Pity they don't make E63 coupe!

don't know where you are, but 09 C63 in the US did not have keyless go. i'm not even sure if it has P31 available back then
so all the 09s are in the same shoe

A 2009 C63 is almost $10K less than a 2010. IMO minor issues with 09 isn't worth the ~$10k price difference.

ohhh I wasn't aware of that. Im in New York. So I guess the only extra package besides the navigation, memory seats, is the CF trim. Still a good price if you ask me. The asking price was $49,000

Thanks for the pointers. I am still trying to decide what to do. I do like the 06-11 CLS AMG models and will test drive a few this week

So are you still contemplating buying the C63? Just saying bump won't help. It's been a. Long time. Tell us what you think and if any variable has changed?
Did you drve the E550?
Did you drive the C63?
Did you drive a CPO E633?
